Most 5s seen in one day!!!

Can the "center console under passenger middle seat" be retro fitted easily / cheaply to a Sport trimmed 5?

Probably. Its not a very complicated piece. Even better, I'd LOVE to give up my center console if I could retro-fit the european "plus one" seat there, instead!

I would love to squeeze 3 people in the middle and leave the back for storage! I saw the foldable third sear in an online image gallery, and was immediately jealous that isnt available on US models (along with the Euro roof rack).

Also the tray table thing would be cool on the seat backs. I understand the middle third seat was taken out due to safety standards in the US (seatbelt latch on the mini added seat wasnt in the right place or something), but still... that would have been awesome!

I see very few driving around in Southern California... maybe 3 or 4 per week.

Considering I probably see 100 Priuses and 50 Honda Fits... it's not really a popular car out on the left coast.

Even the wife noticed the lack of 5's when we took our 5 on a road trip from Portland to Southern CA. There are tons in Portland I see at least 4-6 a day.

Recent trip to South Carolina, driving across the state, saw 9 Mazda 5's....very poplular down there :)

I loose count

Where I use to see only 1 or two every week, I'm seeing over two a day. Count myself as one of the visionaries who picked one of the first to come off the boat in 2005.

Really though how can anyone not buy one given how practical they are? Of course there are those who complain about the high performance tires and taunt suspension. One colleague at work purchased one a couple of years ago and commented that a family car shouldn't have such low profile tires. I told him that he really didn't get the 5 if he didn't understand the point of it's tires.

I've actually been trying to get my wife to buy a CX-9, but she really doesn't see the point. WIth the exception of all wheel drive and extra goodies, she thinks the 5 suits our needs perfectly.

On a typical day driving around the SGV of LA Metro, I might see 2-3 with probably 4 being the max. I generally lose count right away because of the typical day-to-day things clouding my mind. Not anywhere near the number that many of you are seeing but the main reason I'm writing is because I saw only 2 during my 2000 mile trip (CA to CO) and both were in small Colorado mountain towns. I saw exactly ZERO Mazda5s during the 29 hour drive back and forth when I was fully expecting to see several. Really seems to point to the 5 being more of an urban car instead of a long distance tourer...

90 minute round-trip down the 405 freeway to Irvine, Ca and back. Didn't see one Mazda5. (BTW, Irvine is Mazda's NA headquarters)

Although I lost count on Mazda3 's

I saw 7 yesterday, and that doesn't count driving by the local Mazda dealership. At one point there were 3 of us in a little Mazda 5 parade.
