I was raised a military brat and know true mongolian bbq. Here in San Antonio,a military town, you can't find true mongolian bbq. Only one place here serves it and boy is it gooooood.
I was wondering if across the nation if ya'll have any good places. We have places open, but don't last long which is shocking to me. They have a place called Fire Hut which plays more to the non military people, but they have a fire sauce that will clear your sinuses and make ya sweat. That place even closed and they were a franchise.

Just wondering if there was any mongolian bbq ppl out there.

Again I know, a stupid thread!

Basically you have a series of usually 4 raw meats. Beef, pork, chicken and lamb. Some places cary other meats. You put whatever meat you want into a bowl next you have raw veggies...cabbage,carrots,chives,onions,bean sprouts ect. You stack the veggies on top of your meat. Usually stack it pretty high because it shrinks when cooking. Last you have usually 6-7 sauces to put on..wine,sugar water, seasame oil, garlic mixture, red pepper oil,soy sauce. You add these sauces then take it to the cook.
He sears the meat and veggies on a hot grill with the sauce mixture until cooked. They usually will ask if you want it hot and they will add extra red pepper mixture right before taking off grill. Sounds simple, but the flavor is out of this world. In most cases it's all you can eat.
That is the more traditional mongolian bbq. Some newer versions will have same principle, but have 20-30 different suace combos to choose from.
The place I mentioned in my post,Fire Hut,was like that. I ate there because it was close and I liked the fire sauce they had. That was some good hot stuff. Of couse I added about 4 laddles of the stuff.

Yeah.. there is a place in downtown Atlanta that is awesome.... all you can eat too... shrimp is extra tho...

They have about 12 different sauces and 12 different spice combinations as well.

It just kicks ass... prolly why it is always so busy. Oh yeah, they don't call it Mogolian BBQ.... even though that is what it is... ;)

*p.s. - Army brat here too.... :)

Which restaurant is that Brian?

I've been wracking my brain to try and remember the name....:(

we should all go for lunch some Saturday... lunch is a much better deal and less crowded than dinner usually...

Yum! There was a Mongolian BBQ place that I'd go to when I worked downtown in Chicago - yummy stuff!

Sure rub it in! once I find a place they wind up closing. Found this one place all you can eat for $5.95. They lost $ on me. Prolly why they closed. hee hee
Go ahead...enjoy your lunch while I wonder around here trying to find me some bbq.(sad1)

Ok. Remembered a place that I haven'r been in 6 months or so. I had to go there for lunch and get my fix. Thier mongolian is ok,not the best. The talk about bbq gave me the DT's.

i was in Cali for business for a few months this spring and they took me out to mongolian bbq for the first time (and second and third and 4th, but thats beyond the point) and i loved it! Anyone else employ the art of squishing down the meat with the second bowl to maximize your meat serving!? Totally against most places rules, but worth it if you can get away with it
