Mods you have regreted or regret and Why?

The mods I regret are:
The system because of the install job, my ex boyfriend did it while we were still together but he was mad at me so he did a bad job.
I also regret the aluminum wing (Im glad its gone)
And the altezzas. ugh. Im glad IM past those days.
Other then that I have always been happy with my car.

I regret trying to change the colour of the interior pillar covers. See, I bought an A-pillar 3 gauge pod (which in itself is a little ostentatious and somewhat regretable I suppose) and I figured since I was going to have to paint it to match the other pillars, I might aswell just change them all. So I went out and bought a couple cans of vinyl primer, 4 different colours of paint and some sealer, got out the airbrush and went to work on the gauge pod first...it turned out splendidly and the paint stuck well (any idea where I am going here?...well I dismantled all the OEM panels and started in on them...first primed...then laid the base colour...masked the pieces for the next colour....sprayed the next colour, but when it came time to remove the tape, off came the paint that it was protecting.....well the long and short is that it was a waste of time, money and patients. boo.

Oh and in my defense the colour scheme was not really rice or flashy...the pillars where to be suttle--prodominately black w/ 2 different colours of warm blue and a yellow pin stripe that matched the interior stitching....ya live ya learn

Philosophical thought: But by beating "your own path" you are following yet another idea.

Face it, nothing is original any more.

I regret breaking my car before carlisle and I called Fast Freddies and He won't be able to start work on my car till June 15th with is AFTER HIN Charlette

VDO Gauges.
Don't like the Boost Gauge. The adapter to connect the hose to the gauge is HUGE. It sticks out so long the gauge will not fit in an A-pillar gauge pod. The only way to get it to fit is to drill a hole in your pod and sitck the back of the gauge out of it, and run the hose up the OUTSIDE of the pod where it is visible to everyone.

I didn't know this before buying the set and now have to buy a sterring wheel gauge pod, or custom make a fiberglass A Pillar pod that's deep enough to fit.

Also the Oil temp and pressure senders have a different fitting then what is availbale on our cars. So I also have to buy a BPT to NPT fitting from Flying protege to wire everything together.

I like:
The color (red leds are really close to stock)
Black face with white letting when not lit
All electronic
Good Quality and Price

Not really knocking the product, the gauges are good, but the application on an MSP is difficult to get right.

Thats it you ruined it for me :p

I have nothing against ricey vehicles. I dislike the way some of them look so cheap and half assed but if thats their thing then thats their thing. Trust me Im all about originality. If you cant see that by looking at my car...then Im doing something very wrong!

Hmm...I don't really "regret" anything but I have a couple of mods that need fixing:
1) Eibach spring's clunk, not a big deal and they are soo worth the money but the clunk pisses me off.
2) Custom catback exhaust: loud as hell, installed it on tuesday and I can't stand it so I have to get it tweaked.

dude that makes no sense, If you clear a path by yourself then you made it easier for everyone else to follow.

^^ he meant that people are telling you that you have to beat your own path which is an idea in itself that people follow

i know im new here, but can i just say i regret shaving the door handles on my last car? crawling thru the trunk when the battery dies is FUN

I had a prelude with shaved handles and will attest to the fact that they were a pain in the ass... my neighbors kid did seem to think that it was pretty cool climbing through the trunk as well

I wish my neighbor had a freakin kid. then again they probably would have just pointed and laughed at me when i was a preztel on the back seat.

I put a pull wire inside the passenger side front fender on my 1991 Mazda pickup. That way, if the battery died I could reach inside and pull the wire to pop it open. I loved shaved handles. Especially when someone would ask "How do get in to that thing".

Mod that I regret is the iridium tipped plugs and racing wires. Not sure if there was a benefit, but could have used the money for something else.

One thing I learned from customizing my last vehicle was that the interior come first. I want to be able to enjoy the work first. Later on I'll get to the engine and exterior of the car. When I had my Mazdawg pickup, I did the bags and rims first, then the engine upgrades (with the 2200s, its almost a safety thing to increase hp for the sake of merging onto the freeway). Next was the body drop and shaving job of almost everything. Finally got around to the stereo and interior.

Advise that I give to folks wanting to customize their vehicle is this:

#1 save your money and buy what you want and don't settle for anything less.
#2 when you buy quality, you only cry once. LOL
#3 before beginning the journey have a route or plan in place. Know where you want to go with the vehicle and what the vision is for it.
#4 And most important, know that you will never be finished.

Sorry for the preaching. Just an old guy hoping to help out the next generation of hot rodders.
