Mods for MSM?

Ok so I have a 05 MSM. I'm curious to know if there are any "free" mods to increase the power at all. Suchs as bypassing different lines and what not. I'm a complete noob to these cars so I'm looking for any possible info.

I just ordered a Boost gauge from prosport but beyond that I'm lost on who makes good parts and all that.

I'm not new to cars or turbos, but I am new to the mazda scene. so all the help is much appreciated.

Thanks Guys/Gals

I have a Mazdaspeed mx5 & have mods. I can tell you the mods that give the best bang for the buck.

There is basically nothing for free that is going to make any substantial difference to performance worth doing.

The cheapest thing you can do is get a manual boost controller & turn the boost up to 10 psi of boost but the stock intake going to the turbo is restrictive so it would be a good idea to replace it.

AEM makes a short unrestrictive intake that has a heat shield to help pull cooler air in from the front of the engine bay.

Flyin Miata also makes an intake, it is chrome & looks pretty but pulls air in from near the firewall but im not sure if it makes any significant difference weather the air is pulled in by the firewall or near the front but I noticed a big difference in power when I installed my Flyin Miata intake & manual boost controller. My car went fron 0-60 in 6.7 seconds stock to 0-60 in 5.5 seconds with the Flyin Miata intake with manual boost controller.

I have a Flyin Miata intake but if I had to do it again I think I would get the AEM intake because I have a feeling it may give just a few more HP.

The boost pressure will cause the throttle body inlet pipe to expand.

People will replace it with a Flyin Miata metal inlet pipe but you do not have to replace it. It can be fixed.

I fixed mine using wire I had around my house after I found that it had doveloped a crack in it. I sewed the crack in it with string then wraped wire around it so it would not be able to expand & it worked. it worked so well it can hold 16 lbs of boost with the sewed crack in it.

I also put a wider clamp on & it holds boost even a 16 lbs. The camp is 14mm wide.

Im planning on getting another used stock throttle body inlet pipe from somebody then clean it up & use polished aluminum wire to wrap around it so it looks nice.

Here is a picture of my stock TBIP my next one is going to look better without the tape & with polished aluminum wire.

I helped my friend put the Flyin' Miata intake/charge piping kit and manual boost controller on his '04 a month ago. You could definitely feel the car pull harder, and it was nice to finally hear the turbo/BOV!

Here's an idea of the FM Intake. This is my car with the Big Enchilada package installed.

Just a little insider info on the FM intake posted above. The installation instruction tell you which hose clamps go where and where to reuse the factory clamps. I would suggest you follow this! :) When my friend and I installed the kit for the first time we got most of the clamps right, except for the one leading from the BOV to the intake pipe. It blew off a couple times. lol

free mods...if you find some let us know...if you spend some time and peruse the threads you find some very useful info...do's and don'ts and some mods that are not to expensive. most of the msm owners upgrade the FMIC, intake and exhaust, add the boost guage and AFR guage and turn up the boost a bit...but thse mods alone can set you back a grand or more easy (used parts will save you a ton!) good luck and let us know what you end up doing...some pics of your ride?(2thumbs)
