MOD Q's

So since I finally got beaten by a brand new audi I'm wanting to finally tweak my MSP. It's not paid off yet so I don't want to go nuts on it. (and the payments keep the budget down too) I'm looking at doing just an FMIC and CAI for now. I found a FMIC core that measures 18x18x3. Would this be sufficient or would i benefit from a larger core? This car is totally stock so any other suggestions would be appreciated

Any fmic is better than the heat soaked stocker. And also the stock crappy charge pipes suck. But fmic, exhaust and intake will do a little bit and doesn't cost to much IMHO.

I might wait on exhaust. The FMIC core I found sounded good. I can get the piping cheap so that'll be all that I need. I really dont want it to sound like I a bee. I despise that sound but the previous owner did me a favor and punched the cats out already....

a 18x18x3" core? good luck making it fit. youll have to hackup your bumper, bumper support, and push that mofo up to the top radiator brace. try 26x6x3.

I've seen it mentioned to move the MAF to the cold line from the FMIC is there a performance reason or is it just to get a better location for it? SOrry for stupid ?s all of my other builds have been carbbed chevy v-8s

its more stable there - it measures the air going into the engine instead of the air going into the turbo. makes a lot more sense when you think about it.
if you want to run a blowoff valve where you vent to atmosphere, its the only way to do it - otherwise, youre blowing off metered air.

there seems to be a little terminology confusion here...

filter -> turbo inlet: intake (including cold air intakes aka CAI's)
turbo outlet -> FMIC: hot pipe
FMIC -> throttle body: cold pipe

you put the MAF on the cold pipe about 6-8" from the throttle body. you can put a BOV on the hot or cold pipe, as long as its at least 6" from the MAF.

I had read in one of the other threads to put the BOV on the CIA about 4in from the throttle body to prevent pressure buildup when the throttle is suddenly closed

best bang for buck upgrades with reliability unless you drive like an idiot

1. ssafc
2. atp wga (8 psi)
3. 1 step colder spark plugs

I run a similar setup with an upgraded smic, hard pipes and 2.5" high flow cat mid pipe and am happy with the performance.

no - they said coldpipe. check the terminology list above... the CAI isnt pressurized nor near the throttle body.

or alternately send me a link to where they said CAI so i can go put the smackdown on them.

You're right I've got a terminology issue not used to this kind of setup my bad. Now that I looked at iti understand the seyup. Thanks for the help.
