mod or not to mod

I will boost mine. I am going to start gathering stuff for the msp setup and the tiptronic is still better than not havin a tiptronic. Its still fun IMO . Work with what u have in ur posession. I love my car and am not going to sell it cuz its a tip-auto. Its just a lil more challenging.

Word son, I don't have the money to mod right now because of certain problems with work, but boy when i get the chance it's not going to stop......EVER lol

Keep it stock. Get it paid off. Buy something else and use the P5 as a daily.

That is agenda with my Protege 5. It's an awesome car for what it is. If you try changing it dramatically it'll be fun but from what I've read you can't make this car dramatically faster. It seems that just getting into the 14's takes a lot of work and is expensive with this car. You'll also need to consider if you're going to feel like replacing the block/transmission if they happen to go which of course would be more likely than if you kept it stock.

And would that get you into 14's?

There's nothing wrong with 14's by any means but you can easily find an sr20'd 240 for 5k or less...how much to get 10 psi or fully build the motor, tuning, transmission, etc...?

There is nothing cooler than seeing someone make their P5 fast as hell but the aforementioned is definitely an alternative where you can still keep your P5 and just daily drive it. :)

Anyways...I've tossed out my 2 cents. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

You can do 10psi on a msp setup (frequent the FS section for probably less than $1500 plus exhaust and an upgraded IC without having to build the motor and a 5spd tranny. The auto may be a bit lower but there are the lentech valve bodies for the auto that help with that. Not sure on the craptronic tranny though?

P.S. 330whp+/- daily driven right here!

Ide kill just to get a damn 5 spd into the thing..that would make this car so much more appealing, love the tiptronic for convinience, but ...4 gears..is

FAIL...

That and just the whole concept of boosting an automatic car that i want for "track" purposes..seems a tad pointless, ya i can drive the hell out of this car with the crap thats in it, but i break it enough as is...boost with this glass tranny would be scary...

Keep the Pro5 stock or lightly modded and pick up a Miata for track duty

Re-read your post. you want a 1/4 mile car? Don't bother with the Pro5.

Go get a foxbody mustang

ya..thats true..especially with the high mileage (will be 100k by the end of this year)...

project car it is.

(2thumbs) Fox's are cheap, forged from the factory and are light for their class. I had a 347 stroked 89 LX that was ugly as...well...it was the definition of ugly.
Cheapest 13 second car ever.

I have a spare 5 speed transmission. Talk to Karl about getting the other parts to making your car a 5 speed.

You have a spare!? just randomly..and i honestly dunno if u wuold know, but do u have an estimate of how much the swap would cost? (including ur tranny)? if not, i can research, and ill jump on the azmc forums

I had at one time 3, 5 speed transmissions. I was going to give one to Karl in trade for labor on my motor swap. Because the limited slip MSP transmission is what is going it right now along with Karl's old motor from P5#1. That leaves me with the 5-speed that is being swaped + the other one that is sitting in my garage right now.

1) original 5-speed (in car now)
2) 5-speed that came with motor #2 (sitting in my garage)
3) MSP limited slip 5-speed that i bought to put into my car.

Stop spending all your time working on your car and buy a Speed 3. Fast from the factory, still in the family and with a few hundred buck in mods, high 13's are possible. Clutch is on/off type so bumper to bumper commutting in a big city could be a PITA.

I tried financing a speed two weeks ago...Fell in love on the test drive

But they wanted 6k down a 600 am month...+ my trade in

I left..and laughed. Stuck with the wagon

itll feel quick, sound good, and handle well. if you wanna ride in a p5 with those mods (but the pricier, more jdm versions of them) lemme know. or a boosted p5. either way ;p

Personally i loved my p5 when it had thunder header, simota CAI, SU front and side solid mounts, Medieval lightweight pullies, drilled slotted rotors. Personally I would do it all again!

However I traded it in for a MSP! already turbo charged most of the brand name mods I wanted for the turbo route and a stick to boot! However every now and then I think im such a dumbass for trading it in or the MSP. The thing was almost paid off to! oh well i like my msp still none the less.

Ya. workin on the mods now.

Just bought a Sport Exhaust
New SRI
New Front control arms
Got all 4 MM done

Getting New brakes
Gonna order a header ina few weeks
and upgrade the sway bars.

Ill work on springs and stuff later..seeing as its expensive
