missing heat shield bolt

How common is the missing heat shield bolt? For some reason mine has disappeared since the last time I opened my hood. I have also heard of others having the same problem? Bad design or poorly installed?

i just happened to hear mine fall off one day a few months back, so i just took off the heatsheild all together, to me personally it looks better.

I think it's there for a reason...that area gets SUPER hot. It's strange, but it seems like almost everyone is missing this bolt, which leaves me to believe that none of us had it in the first place. (boom01)

i have seen a few with out bolts or loose bolts, it is best to keep the heat shield on for lower under hood temps

Yup, mine is missing, I know I had it before...

not just the msp's either, mine on the p5 fell out right before i bought a header. its a common thing to be missing for some reason. But they were installed at the factory. The torque guys arm must get tired by the time he gets to the last one.

mine too, it was missing after i took it in for wheel alignment. if your standing infront of the car. the bolt on the right is missing.

I've lost the bolt on the right side 3 times now. Even using thread lock, it's fallen out 3 times. I bought 2 replacements, and then finally just took the one from the lower portion of the heatsheild. If I lose another one, I'm making mazda replace them next time.

not just a MSP problem... all protege's have a hard time keeping in the lowest heat shield bolt.

oh, and Loctite cannot take the heat... even their hi-temp stuff can only take 500def F

I've caught my lower bolt backing out every time I've opened my hood (which is quite often, I'm a little obsessive), and tightened it back up. The bolt on the right hand side was gone the first time I opened the hood after taking it home.

i am missing the one on the right hand side. Its really wierd that all of you also have a missing bolt.

There 4 blots, lost the top right hand blot at about 3000
miles. I got new bolt from dealer put some hight-temp
rtv silicone on it ,now i got 13,000 miles NP mite want to
give it a try it work for me .
