Missing dipstick??

The dipshits at Walmart lost my dipstick when I made the mistake of having them change my oil a few months ago. I need to get a replacement, but I think the last time I looked this up at autozone, it came out to around $34!! Can anyone suggest a cheap alternative? Also, what years protege will fit the protege 5?

Thanks!

Any FS motor really. I would try the junk yard or look on craigslist for people parting out. Or you could put up a Want To Buy thread in the P5/MSP sections.

have you tried going to the dealer? Sometimes they can be nice. Call them up first before you go down though.

Yeah, I will probably end up doing that. The closest junk yards that I know about are in Albuquerque, and they are almost always picked over for the simple stuff! I'll try the dealer thing too. Wouldn't hurt to give them a call. I also sent Walmart a long email...

Honestly, one from onlinemazdaparts.com is only $18 or so. That's where I got my current one after I broke the handle off my last one.

Ditto. Had to do the same for my wife's Protege. The yellow handles become brittle after a few years and will just break off.

Hehehe.. Well, just an update! I couldn't find a receipt for the service, and it has been 6 months since I had my oil changed, but I ended up writing Walmart a really thorough email explaining my situation, and gave them all the details of my car to look it up in their database. He called me back, and ordered one overnight! I should have it tomorrow! Sometimes it pays to complain!

Next question.. As soon as I found out about this, I covered the dipstick tube with some strong duct tape. What are the chances that dust has already gotten into that tube and done damage to my engine? :-(

About the same as dust & debris being sucked in through your air filter. Slim to none unless you are missing that too.
