MIL Eliminator on stock downpipe?

:
Titanium Speed
I recently bought a 2.5" Apex downpipe, and I'm a little leary about cutting into the O2 sensor harness to install the MIL Eliminator. If I take my car to the dealer to get some work done or do emmissions, I will have to put the stock downpipe back on. If I use the MIL eliminator in conjunction with the stock downpipe, will it throw a CEL? I figure that will tip the service guys off and get them looking at my car. Will having the MIL eliminator throw a CEL when the stock downpipe is on? Will I have to buy a new O2 sensor and change it out with the pipes?

you dont have to buy a new o2 censor. btw they run like $120.....
i'd just keep the mil in, never heard of it throw a cel on a stock dp

Just talked to Autozone, and the rear O2 sensor costs $260.00!!! Holy shat. And they have to order it. I am trying to buy one off of a wrecked MSP or MP3 just in case, and figured I'd look into a new one. Forget that. I hope the MIL will work with stock and catless.

i would assume it works because all a cel eliminator is are a resitor and capictor or whatever that converts the o2 signal to read like it would though a cat....be it the cat is in or not....the signal would still be the same once it passes the mil

Mach 3.5 turbo: I'm thinking of ordering the same DP from them, is yours polished like the web-site shows? I'm going to try and do the same thing and find another O2 sensor to chop up for the DP then put the stocker in when I'm headed to the Dealer.

I'll try it today, and I'll let everyone know if it works right. The pipe just showed up like 10 minutes ago. If I can locate a new gasket for the back I'll be in business. I live about 45 minutes from summit racing, so maybe they'll have what I need. I'll keep y'all posted.

Edit: With pics :D

Let me know how tough this is for you to install and how it went. I'm thinking of getting this same DP. Let me know what kind of gains you get with the DP as well.

This is a very good question. I'd like to know also.

But why would you change your exhaust for the dealer? That's just not necessary unless your dealer is unreasonable (wedge)

It's not the exhaust, it having no cats that worries me......
Ahhh, gotcha. I would still think you are okay taking it to the dealer with no cats. But I understand the caution.

Heathen: Yeah you know most dealers probably wouldn't care much, but with all this voiding warranty stuff going on it's better to be safe then sorry. But I think they would say that because you took off your cats the ecu isn't working correctly hence the motor isn't being given the correct A/F ratios, hence you no longer have a warranty on your engine or anything to do with your ecu...that would suck, so easier to just put on the old exhaust when you bring it in.

Have fun getting your O2 sensor off in the first place. Mine was a mutha fugger to get off. My friend said that you can buy a tool made for gripping them, so I would recommend you go get one before you do the install. Mine got a little munched up :-)!

Fair enough. I would be willing to fight them on that one if needed but I respect the caution as they are all to often looking to void a warranty.

Dont worry about the dealer. I had a 3" apex downpipe and Its really easy to install the mil. No worries from the dealer unless something breaks on your car just only when you get an inspection.

Hey i started a thread..actually a HOw to on the MIL/CEL eliminator...here's the link:

Well i originally installed it when i had my header on the car..than i returned it back to stock..and then turbo'd it...and have had no problems with it..as long as you take your time..and do a good job...covering it up..it shouldn't be a problem!

Rear O2 Elimination

Ok, I have a related question... trying to find a way to make this MIL eliminator work with the O2 sensor completely absent from the circuit.

Here's what I've got so far: the ecu needs to see around .45 volts coming from the O2's signal lead, not sure if it keeps track of crosscounts (maybe the capacitor will give illusion of the proper voltage fluctuations).

So I'm assuming with the right resistor, there should be a way to drop enough voltage from the 12 volt supply to the heating element to show the ECU the numbers it wants to see...

Option number two would be to hook up the O2 sensor with the MIL eliminator and zip tie it someplace. Dunno if that would even work, but it's worth a try if I can't get this worked out.

Basically the point of this whole deal is to make a simple device that I can plug into my second O2 sensor wiring harness, and avoid cutting the the factory wires. My Corksport exhaust doesn't have a bung for an O2 sensor and I'm looking for a creative fix, without welding a bung on...

Can anyone help?

Well i heard if you put the 1st o2 sensor behind the 2nd o2 sensor..it will fix your problem..but i don't believe anyone has tested it!

if you are that worrid about cutting the factory wires..go out..purchase..a new 02 sensor...so this way..you have one w/ the cel fix..and the other..for when you need to go to mazda!

Good luck

That was the plan, but I wanted a way to hook this up without having the second O2 sensor in the exhaust stream, hence not producing ANY voltage whatsoever. Trying to basically build a signal generator.

And flipping the O2 sensors around will do nothing except make the first O2, which is the important one, less accurate. It'll still throw a CEL.
