Yeah, I noticed the turbo lag when I test drove it. But when it got going it was tight!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a aftermarket turboback exhaust will reduce the lag alot. there is 3 cats in the wrx's if i remember correctly..

yep, pre-turbo(up pipe), downpipe, midpipe.

Get the WRX!!!! My friend has one with turboback exhaust, boost controller at 15psi, and intake and that car is SO FAST!!! the MSP will never be able to compete with it. The car is a beast.....

My dad works at a dealership that sells Subarus. I have talked to the techs for subies and they only get ones that are beat to hell and they strip trannys fairly easy and lots of stripped differentials. Not to mention the blown motors. They are always in the shop from what I hear from the techs.

Can you say understeer, I had an 03 WRX, power was nice but I didn't like the handling. The handling of the MSP is so much better. Good Luck what ever you do.

i dunno if i'd trust a used wrx with that many miles... but then, if you're going to mod anyway, there're bound to be problems regardless.

fun car to drive though; i've test driven one (i was contemplating a used wrx before purchasing my present car) and it was a blast. the steering and suspension aren't perfect, but hell, it's a great daily driver car... and can be a great track car given enough mods. i say.... well... s***, i ono... 15k for that car seems fishy from a dealer....

**** it, get a new one. or **** it, get that one and not worry about engine problems; just mod and fix as you go along.

ill tell you all this right now... I traded my 03 orange MSP in for a WRX STi and i love the car more than anything. It is an awesome and reliable car i would buy one if i where you.

I came from a WRB WRX Wagon.

If you are getting a WRX, there are a few things you need... First, get a new sway bar. Second, get new tires (Stock tires suck) Then get KYB AGX gas struts (cheap good upgrade) with GC Coil overs. Now that you have spent 500 dollars and your car handles *almost* as well as an MSP, spend another three hundred and remove the cats (used stock up-pipe and DP gutted) Boost controller, boost gauge, EGT gauge and intake and your car is stupid fast. Add on some stoptech brakes (so I hear) and you have a track car.

Seriously. The WRX is SUPER GREAT! 1500 in mods (mostly tires) will get you ~250 hp and great handling; not to mention the AWD.

If you dont want to upgrade it all, MBC, sway bar and tires is all you need.

As far as the weak transmissions go, aviod the 5k clutch dumps and you will be fine.

STI is a lot different then a WRX

I just wanted to dispurge a couple of the nasty rumors about the WRX.

The tranny is not weak. However when you have AWD and you launch often the tires don't spin. Well the energy has to go somewhere which is the gears. Alot of the people that have broken their trannies have admitted fault, like side stepping the clutch on a 6K rpm launch. The case does have some flex to it compared to the stouter STi 6-speed but that is a different issue. Most of the problems also come with people that are used to FWD or RWD and trying to chirp the tires going into 2nd or 3rd. This obviously doesn't work when you have double the amount of traction. So once again something in the middle has to take the energy and eventually break.

The car handles very well, but it handles differently than a FWD, or RWD. You kinda have to relearn how to drive fastly. Stock there is a bit of understeer but that is easily (and cheaply) remedied with a new rear sway bar.

The stock (or many of the aftermarket) turbo doesn't need a traditional cool down. It is oil and water cooled so even after the car is turned off coolant is still flowing over the turbo to prevent the oil from caking.

15K for a used WRX with 45K miles seems alright but I'd suggest either getting a new one or really checking the car out. Get under the car and look at the factory bolts on the exhaust and turbo to see if they have ever been taken off. I'm not saying a previously modified WRX is bad, but there are alot of people that think more boost = better.

p.s. I'm not really a troll. My new roommate (kevducrdr) has a MSP and I want to learn more about it.

I drive a WRX with ~320 HP (265 awhp) at the crank so I'm not just going off of what other people tell me either. I've had that power for ~30,000 miles so I'd say it's pretty reliable.

I don't know. I didn't like the regular WRX when I test drove it. The steering felt vague and TO ME it handled very Accord/Camryish as compared to where the MSP is more razorsharp akin to a ITR/EVO. The power was OK but not much faster if at all than my MSP. Not my cup of tea..dunno.

As far the big boys go...EVO>STI IMHO. The EVO is incredible.
