While running out of gas was memorable this time, in general that kind of thing ruins somebody's day.
I agree with the needing a basic set of rules for breakdowns/accidents. There is absolutely no need for more than one group to stop to help someone. That is the point of the group leaders and the radios.
As for finding alternate routes, good luck with that. It took me and others 4-6 years of occasional scouting to get what we have. It also took some new paved portions and resurfaced portions by the local governments to put it together. There are other roads suitable, but they are in need of repaving/reconditioning. That is why we don't use them.

Also in July/August they put "pea gravel and tar" down on the roads to resurfact them and we don't ride for obvious reasons when they do that. The surface is very loose and sketchy, especially on the bikes.
We rarely see too many cops out there. Our incident on the bikes was poor timing and unfortunate. Just keep the speeds down and don't do dumb stuff to draw any unneeded attention.
It's up to you guys on continuing. July and August are usually fubared for me. I actually may be taking the VP position on the eboard of my Ducati Club as the current VP is stepping down for work related reasons. The 17th may still be doable for me. I'll let you know for sure soon.
