*#*&^ Mice!

So I took my MS6 in for it's regular oil change (free) @ my dealer Friday night so I could pick it up yesterday. They owed me a free cabin filter change since I had to wait an extra hour to pick her up the last time.

So come to find out, @#!@ Mice have been nesting in the heating ducts chewing the daylights out of everything. RRRRRRRRRR.....So basically I want to make sure this doesn't happen again. I live in the country so mice are a constant issue. I've put about 20 traps out in the garage w/ only a single mouse executed thus far. Any thoughts on where a mouse, mice might have gotten into the heating channel? Evidently they've nested between the cabin filter and down to the blower motor and such. My dealer actually let me take a peak before they cleaned it out (I must say, I have a really good dealer service staff) and you should see all the junk. My car sat about a week or so over the holidays, so I am assuming that is when this happened.

At least they just didn't clean it out and say, "Have fun!". They are checking everything out thoroughly to make sure nothing critical was chewed, or could become a problem. So for now, I'm driving a little loaner Mazda3. Not a bad little ride, but definitely not my MS6.

Done ranting now...

oh and could you smell anything when you had the heater on? I would think it would stink. And were the mice in there when they took it out?

Damn man that's pretty wacky. Mice use some pretty crazy stuff for nests... I saw one made of old newspaper and coaxial cable at my dad's house once.

If you set the traps I would imagine you'll start killing them by the dozen if the infestation is that bad.

Sorry to hear about the mouse infestation. Peanut butter on the traps works wonders though, I had a mouse problem when I moved into my last apartment. after about a week, we took a couple dozen mice out to the dumpster.

they have poison that kills the mice by drying them out. basically dehydrates them, so they don't smell. that might be the better option, so if they do die inside your car, they don't stink as bad.

Thanks All

Yeah, it's pretty whacked. I've put out lots of traps (using peanut butter - my favorite bait as well) but so far only one.

When I turned on the heat the last couple of days it smelled a little "off" but just odd, sort of like most systems smell when they haven't been used for a while. No mouse carcasses in the system that I saw, or the dealer found yet, just lots of nesting material.

So anyone have thoughts on how the little rascals got into that part of the system????

!@#!@#!@ Mice! :)

I have to keep a good sense of humor about it I suppose.

New MS6 = $25K
Continued Upkeep = $100's a year
Finding out a itty bitty mouse screwed up your car = Definitely need a Mastercard!

I'm sooo hoping mice don't get into my car over the winter while it's stored! Mice chewed up some of the insulation in the engine bay of my other car so I took a precaution with my Speed 6. I heard mice don't like the smell of dryer sheets so i put a bunch in the interior and engine bay of my 6 while it's being stored. I'm just praying that it's enough to keep the damn vermin out of there.

I hope the dryer sheet thing works man. That whole @#@#! Mice situation was a royal PITA. You know, I've had trap city out in my garage since...4 whole mice, 4! Unreal what those little rodents can do.

Update: Well I just checked the 6 today and started her up for the first time in about a month and I found absolutely no sign of mice or other rodents! I can only guess that the dryer sheets really work because my father's truck, which gets parked next to mine, had a nest and a bunch of nuts in the engine bay when checked the other day. Hopefully the dryer sheet tip will help others with mice problems!

my mom's bmw had went to the shop and had 3 dead mice in them about a year ago. i went with her to pick the car up, and he's like did you know about the mice. im like no, and we go out and look at them, and they were really packed in between the bottom part of the front bumper next to the passenger side fog light and under cover. they were in pine straw, dirt, and some kinda wiring that wasn't apart of the car. they pulled one of the fog light wires out and chewed it a little. it was the only damaged part, and the tech was like your lucky that they were babies because he had previous taken out an adult rat that had chewed a lot wires in some guys mercedes which costed thousands. good thing you found them. the car was in a garage, and the garages bottom seal thingy was broken on one side, so that's how they got in, and they climb up on the wheel to get in or pull themselves up onto a hanging piece of the car, such as my mom had a piece of the under body panels hanging down when she went up on a curb parking.

Glue traps work the best. I worked at a pizza hut that had a really bad mouse infestation problem. Layed out glue traps one morning. When I closed the store, I had 12 mice caught. The next day, I had another 10

Another option that you have is to get some boxes that are big enough that if a mouse got into it, it cant get out. Put the mouse traps with PB in the box and leave around the garage. The mice WILL find a sneaky way into the box but won't be able to get out. Eventually they will either run into the trap or you will have caught him.

Best of luck! (smoke)

those work really well. I've caught one using a glue trap. it had half of it's body on it, so when I got within so many feet, it tried to take off.

So far, only about 8 dead @#$@#$ mice over the time since first post until now. Hopefully, the peanut butter will kill them slowly via salmonella if not quickly as they eat it in the trap!
