I ment the spark plug boot on the fs-de engine 2.0 Liter. I was wondering if the boot on the spark plug wires for the protege and the Miata are the same.
Does the FS version of our engine use spark plug wires? That seems weird that we would have direct ignition, but the higher performance version would still use a cap and rotor... I figured the newer miatas would have direct ignition also.
All 2.o liter proteges engine name is the fs-de. We have two direct fire coils on cylinder #2 and #4 and cylinder #1 and #3 has wires coming of the coils. One coil sparks 2 cylinders. Basically I believe the newer Miatas have direct coils for each cylinders but the older ones dont. MSD makes 8.5 mm wires for the 1.6 and 1.8 liter miats.
1. as long as I have the rite boot I can recrimp the wires to the rite lenght and would have 2 extra wires left and they only cos $60 dollars.
2. I am trying to change my coils to MSD's higher spark coils. So I would then need 4 wires anyway.
That seems really weird, that they'd use two coils and two wires- but sure enough, I went and confirmed for myself. So, the spark plugs are required to be replaced at 30,000 miles- does that mean the two wires should be replaced also?
