Need moar grip!

Plus some black splinedrive mcgard lugs.

Nice. Why did you choose those tires? Cheaper than the Star Spec's. Are these just for AutoX?

That colour will look great on the Winning Blue

I hope he chose them for AutoX... I have them on my Miata and they are definitely a warm temp tire. However, if they are warmed and it's a bit warmer out the tires are awesome.

The only downside is the wear rating is a bit high... You'll get 1 or 2 seasons out of them... If that.

Those tires have more grip than the Star Specs and don't overheat like the Star Specs can sometimes (I've experienced that in the summer some). I wanted to get a tire with max grip.

The Z1 Star Spec is a good "cool" temp tire, but on 215's, I still couldn't generate enough heat when it was cold and windy or rainy. So I really wasn't seeing the "cold grip" benefits nearly as much as advertised. Going to try the RS-3 and see how much this difference affects me.

I'm OK with street grip being lower if they are cool. I guess the wet handling might get hairy. I'd like to see just how hairy.

The tread wear on the star specs is poor too, I got about 2 seasons out of them. I expect faster wear with these. For the money, it's worth a try.

These will be a daily driving tire, but I will keep the Star Specs on OEM wheels around, for when it starts to get cold.

Hmm, ok. But if you couldn't generate the heat on 215's, what makes you think you can generate more heat on 255's? They rated lower than star specs on TR's site. You might find the 255's a handful for DD and wet weather.

Let me know what you think. Are you going to need a fender roll?

Also are you still using the stock endlinks?

I won't generate more heat with 255's if I couldn't with 215's. However, I've accepted that in those situations I'll have suboptimal grip. However, there are lots of times (summer, warmer temps), where during autox, I generate plenty/more than enough heat.

Hopefully they will be good DD'ing too.

Yeah, a pretty hefty one in the rear.

Also are you still using the stock endlinks?
I have one front endlink that's adjustable length, the rest are stock.

Finally cleaned the air filter last night:

Required taking the bumper off. Definitely not an easily serviceable item. Honestly, I'd prefer throwaway paper filters over AEM DryFlow or K&N stuff.

get them on! i wanted 8 0r 9" but they didn't come in 16" black :(

For the 9's you'd have to roll fenders, get a decent neg camber greater than -1.5, and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't clear the stock springs.

Also, doesn't 9's put you in a different AutoX class?

I am now officially BALLIN'!

At Marc's house, with a lot of his help, the tires and wheels are on. Waxed inside and outside:

Painted the center hubs and lug nuts black. Before, nice and rusty:

Sprayed the rear axle bolt black too:

Of course, that's with the rear fenders rolled! It slightly rubs the rear fender still on really deep bumps and does touch the fender liner in the front on the same kind of bumps. So will have to add a touch of negative camber, maybe half a degree.

Haha...holy wide-ass-tires Batman! The comparison photo makes the old tires look like a spare donut-tire.

I feel like I should install some rally-style mudflaps to keep the rocks from kicking up so much

Probably would be a good idea if it looked good. The paint on the car right behind your tires is going to get a beating.
