hey hey..
i need help of the expertises on mesh grills...
I want to add mesh grills to my mp5 however, i don't know jack crap about it.. (crazy)
have been doing some surfin on ebay.
these are some sites i've found:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2469663671&category=33645

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2469671898&category=33645

http://stores.ebay.com/Grille-Tech-Custom-Grilles
(this dude actually doesn't have one for mp5 but then i think i could request one)

(for some reason, this one seems reasonable.. i think decent quality for good price)

MY QUESTION IS:
All of them have wide range of prices($6~$50).... all of them says, their quality is good... but then why would anyone buy the $50 one over $6 ...

someone PLEASE tell me the differences.

The difference is that the $6 dollar grille is probably bad chicken wire that will rust in a week and fall apart. The $50 dollar grille is probably much better. Personally I would'nt buy mesh grille on e-bay since most of the stuff on e-bay is crap.

Here they sell some good quailty mesh grille -

I would not buy the arospeed stuff, simply because it is expensive and it actually is worse for yoiur car as there is alot of metal in tat one meaning alot less air flow to your radiator, dont know if you live somewhere hot but that could be important. Besides show the point of mesh grills is to allow more air flow to certain areas of the car while still protecting the opening from debris.

Personally for the look, I bought the 3 dollar sheet from home depot of the close diamond mesh cut, 3-4 coats primer and 2-3 coats paint(I used a graphite paint, you can paint it silver if you want to keep it that color, the paint just makes it look thicker and protects it from the elements if you do it properly.

The mesh I just got with my DG grill looks exactly the same as the 3 dollar mesh.

Build your own, ill find a pic so you can see what it looks like. i need to redo mine in some parts.

Damn this pic was 6 mo. ago, you can see the grill needs some repainting. I had a chrome spraypaint color.

I bought the "atgrills.com" Protege 5 grille off eBay for 50. If I had it to do over again, I'd just buy the stuff at Home Depot, cuz even though the actual mesh quality is great, all it is is two cut out pieces of mesh. I, or at least my boyfriend :) , could have done that....We did have to smoothe out some of the rough edges. All in all, a good buy cuz it looks great (sorry no pics) but I could have saved a lot of money if I'd just gone to Home Depot.....

you know what just a thought....but a how-to on the grill would be pretty decent considering it wouldny cost more then 10bucks to do :).....dont buy the cheap ones off ebay itll last you like a week haha

Does anyone recognize teh yellow car next to mine. First one to get it gets a cookie. :)

Yeah man, you got the right idea. That's exactly what the $50 mesh is anyway... just THEY painted it. Get yourself to home depot and get some mesh, paint it, then have the gratification of having done it all yourself.
The lower grill may suffer from road debris though, so you may have to touch it up once in a while if the paint chips, just be aware.

thanks

well.. thanks everyone for all the valuable information.
i appreciate the effort..

in overall vote, i would say that everyone is leaning toward buying my own mesh from home depot and then painting it.

well, after painting... i wouldn't know how to install it. someone told me that i could either install over the existing grill or just without.. what are the pros and cons of this?
also, i have no clue where to start.. i guess i would first have to cut the mesh into a similar size as the existing mesh but after, i wouldn't know how to actually mount it on... can someone share their word of "wisdom"...
thanks...

what I did when I had my civic was buy a gutter guard at home depot. its about 6 inches wide or so and no need to paint since it has a coating on it to stop rust. had mine on in wa state for a couple of years and never saw any rust at all. pluss the are like 2 or 3 bucks apiece.

Yeah. This sounds like a cool project but I wouldnt be able to do it without the knowledge of how to install.

Also, how would you attach a Mazda emblem to the grille?

I used a hot glue gun and also adhesive bondo/glue for emblems. I also heard that you can use plumbers putty but that s*** is strong.

I didnt even take the emblem off, i just traced around it and I had a shape cut out for it.
