Men's Health Mazda mention

:
2003 Protege5
There's a little blurb in Men's Health about fuel economy in different classes of cars.

Out of the 7 or 8 classes of cars, Mazda holds the title of Best Fuel Economy for two of them.

The Miata gets the best fuel economy in the two-seater category.

The B-series pickups (twins of Ford Rangers) get the best fuel economy in the small truck category.

Funny, in a comparison test in one of the popular car magazines, the pro was rated as not so good in fuel economy compared to the rest of the cars (Sentra, Neon R/T, etc.). This is an older issue for the 2001 cars and the Pro one overall for it's handling and just having a little bit of everything, although it only single handedly one in handling characteristics. Like I said though, that was in an older issue.

How did the proteges do in that category?
