Exhaust size

Hi all, I am totally new to this forum and driving a humble 1.6L 2001 protege.
I intend to change my stock exhaust. Can anyone advise wats the size best for my car?

Stock
Current header piping size= 1.5"
Current down pipe size= 1.3"

I understand that too big will affect performance instead, so came here to seek advise.

thnx man, 2.5 or 3" .. cant really decide.. is 3" really worth it, or should i just get 2.5???
