MEGA: Aftermarket Exhausts

Hm - are most of these links dead now?

I just put on the corksport S/J pipe + MAM catless midpipe & I have a pretty significant raspy-note. I figure I'm leaking but I wanted to check some of these other sound clips for comparison!

i cant really see how the muffler is mounted is it at a angle like some of the wrx's mufflers? or is it straight back?

it's at a slight angle. not all crazy like horizontal 45degrees. it points from the ground up to about a 15 degree angle to the right.

yeah i know.....broken links cause we-todd's having serious problems. give me a couple weeks and i'll hopefully find some time to move most of the videos over to google or something. some vids are under other people's accounts so i won't have access to them unfortunately.

i'm gearing up for the u.s. racquetball nationals next week so once that's over i'll have more time i hope. be patient with me guys!

you probably aren't leaking. you'd be surprised at how much the exhaust note changes once you replace the midpipe. what kind of muffler are you using?

and this is just freakin great........i can't even download the stupid videos directly from my accounts. so i don't even have access to my own files! ummm....yeah.....we all might have to start from scratch :( i've sent them an email so we'll see if anything comes of it.

Stock - I took out the S/J (Corksport) & the midpipe (MAM catless) and bolted up to the stock from there.

I'm pretty sure I'm leaking at one of the joints - if I'm sitting still I can smell some fumes faintly.

And it's VERY raspy. Like, the dominant sound is that nasty asthmatic wheeze on acceleration.

:(

guess what's back up and running guys! :D we-todd sure fixed that fast after the email i sent them.
awesome striker, did you get a chance to add my soundclips? I plan on getting some better clip but it has been pouring rain lately.

not yet. first thing's first. i'm gonna save all of the files onto my computer for safekeeping. then i'll go around and update the thread with new soundclips. and when i have more time, i'll rearrange the thread so that it's more organized/catagorized.

and maybe sometime in there, install all the parts that are collecting dust sitting in my room!!!!

ok maybe u are leaking then :(

Hm so this weekend I jacked 'er up and tightedned everything down.
I have one nut on the Spipe to the turbo that isn't very tight b/c it's freakin impossible to get at and I def still am leaking.

are people getting new gaskets for all those joints when they swap these pieces out? I reused my originals. Those are the other two things I can think to do right now - find someone to tighten down that last $@^@$#^ nut to the turbo outlet & replace the gaskets?

generally it's a good idea to use new gaskets but i think you should be ok with your stock ones. i wouldn't worry too much about the nut on the s-pipe. there's one actually missing on mine cause the stud sheared off inside the housing.

two other things you might want to check: make sure none of the piping has a crack someplace. the other thing, check your exhaust turbine on the opposite side of the s-pipe. there's one bolt there right by the cartridge.....that one actually fell out on me. not a clue how it came loose. but it happened shortly after my s-pipe was replaced. can you kind of hear where the leak is?

I'm not sure which joint it is b/c they are all so close in there, but it's def coming from that S/J pipe/turbo area. I've listened with hood up but not from underneath the car yet. I can't seem to reach the pedal while I'm under there. Drat.

I did get under the car and check for cracks but nothing was visible - and they were without visible cracks when I put them on.

I need to get under there again to silicone spray my bushings - it groans so loud my wife thought we had run over something. LOL

not yet - hopefully this weekend.
What about obtaining new gaskets for the s/j pipe? dealer? (ugh.)
I figure I try those two things - if that doesn't work then I'm going to have to slap the stock midpipe back on there and take it to the dealer.
