I like this part..

"Some may consider the use of a four-cylinder engine - as opposed to a six or eight cylinder, or maybe a rotary - in a limited edition sports sedan as a risky choice. Mazda executives explain that they wanted to work on their own engine, rather than the "corporate" 3.0-litre V6 that was not developed in-house. "

Except that the 2.3 Liter I4, is a Ford Block too...so I don't really know what they mean by that statement.

Look familar?

the more relevant reason is because the 2.3 is the worldwide engine for the 6/Atenza, and by using the 2.3 for the MS6, there would be less regulation hurdles to pass to make it approved for sale around the world.

correct me if i'm wrong...But is the 2.3 a Mazda creation even if it's on a Ford block? On the other hand, the V6 is still on a Ford block...but developed by Ford.

the 2.3L motor is a MAZDA motor. Ford uses a version of it and calls it the P-zev or some crap. It's a mazda motor that ford modified as oposed to the 3.0L which is a ford motor through and through.

I can't wait. 3-04, 4-04 for the new MS6?? nice!!

The Ford Motor (That mazda uses in the 6i/3s) is the 2.3 duratec platform. Its not a mazda motor...its the identical motor used in the focus. Only differences are "tweaking" between components. (Much in the way between different models). Marcymotorsports even makes interchangable parts for both the 2.3 Focus and 6i/3s engines.

As you can see from the photo, even the manifolds are similar. I mean you can argue all day long, it doesn't change the fact that FORD's printed all over the motor. Everyone should be freaking thrilled they have such a battle tested motor in their cars, with a massive aftermarket following for engine work.

Now the ms6 engine is quite alot different from the standard 2.3 Liter...which is probably what the article is refering to. The only real thing it shares in common with a standard 6i is the block...even the internals are different. (Thankfully). Wish the drivetrain setup wasn't so lame, but oh well, maybe they'll fix it in the 07 ms6's.

I know people will probably get pissy over the whole ford thing and where the car's are built...but who really cares? The Mazda 6 is built in the US, and the Mazda 3's built in japan. Guess which one of the two has more TSB's and MRI's?

Technically looking at the amount of parts from other manufacturers used in current imports...one can't even really call them imports anymore. Just rebadged domestics :).
