Mazdaspeed3 into Mp3?

it already has a small turbo on it(Spool ITS stg1 with custom front mount), actually it already has an mp5 motor and ecu. i just wanted some "helpful" input about a swap. i really was thinking about getting rid of it and getting something newer.

i'm glad that there are some good sports out there. even i enjoy a good internet battle sometimes. it helps to improve my typing. in fact it only took about ten minutes for me to type this.

have a good holiday.

Yeah, if you are looking for bigger numbers....go ahead and buy a Speed3.

Although, the MP3 is more unique. Maybe you would consider a bigger turbo (don't know what type manifold the Spool setup uses). Whatever you decide, it should be fun. I myself would be partial to keeping the MP3, but I guess a Protege owner would be biased.

i plan on getting it tuned, i have one of those fancy microtech units that i need to put on. can't do that though untill the rex is up and dialed in. the turbo is a garret and uses a shorty manifold with the rectangular 4-bolt flange.

right now i'm kinda looking for a fast stock car for a daily driver. something that i can put wheels and maybe some other minor mods on and call it a day. like i could ever just call it a day. right now it's between the 07 sti limited, the r32 golf, and the new ms3.

Before you get the R32, you might consider a GTI as well. They are pulling down big numbers with that 2.0L now. Sport Compact Car actually did a GTI tuner comparo in their latest issue.

Go with the MS3!! It's already putting down nice numbers from the factory and has a great chassis. Besides, you already have a Subie!!

What are you talking about? I read one thing and it seems like you know, but then you say your MP3 has an "MP5 motor" which is dumb.

All 2.0-liter Proteges have the same motor. The only real difference between a standard Protege and the MP3 was the intake manifold leaving out the dumb cold start butterflies. The ECU was the other big difference.

The Spool turbo kits were decent, and running a Microtech will be a huge help. Good luck with the car.

The GTI is a great car, as long as you don't want to turn.

but theres still discussion going on...so what if its not about the original topic, its givin this guy other ideas about his car

the reason it has motor from an mp5 in it is because the original bit the dust and that's what it was replaced with. and yes, i know that they are the same. but thanks for pointing that out. what else would you prefer i call it?

as far as ending this thread goes, it has been twisted and confused beyond all repair. so maybe this will be the last post.

it's NOT a ******* honda

mazda isn't cheap ass like honda and use the same old chassis for a completely new model car... don't expect it to be as easy as putting in a B16A from a 1999 civic into a 1989 civic because honda didn't change s*** in the chassis, ok?

if you read anything about the mazda3, it's all based on the focus, ok?
and the last time I checked, the focus didn't even use any mazda s***!
actually its based on volvo s40 i believe

I actually read all of this. This is very entertaining. Thanks for sharing. But no body actually answered the question.

Short answer, yea the MZR DISI turbo engiine will "fit" in a MP3.

Not so short answer. probably the best way to do it would be to cut the MS3 and the MP3 right in front of the windsheld and weld the MZR front clip on the MP3 .

okay now the long answer. you will need to fab custom mounts, shafts, exhauts, intake, intercooler and plumbing. You will need to painstakingly go through every wire in each cars harness and figure out how to make a MZR comunicate with a MP3. probably the best bet would be a standalone ECU and custom made harness. Oh and don't forget you would need to figure out how to supply 1600psi of fuel pressure to the injectors.

as for cost. I estimate you would have invested about the price of a new MS3 into the conversion. Along with about 1000 hours of work. So save yourself the effort and go buy a MS3.

The best bang for the buck for a FS motor is a turbo. one cool Idea I would like to see someone try is the KLZE in a MP3. I know a lot of the MX6 and probe guys have pulled the FS and installed a KLZE.

Mazda is in charge of all small car development for the Ford family of cars. Ford did the initial design of the chasis, and passed it on to Mazda to take care of everything else. Once the platform was set up, it passed back to Ford and Volvo for their cars.

Or something like that.

If I remember correctly, the 2.3-liter (MZR in all sizes for that matter) is an all-Mazda design. The 3.0-liter V6 is a Ford block and Mazda did the heads for the cars in the Mazda line-up that use it. In a Ford, the 3.0-liter is all Ford design.

Really, MHO, it's not even worth mentioning. You can say the motor popped and was replaced with stock. But, that still really isn't that big of a deal. I think just about every turbo'd MP3 has popped at some point in it's life. Mine did. Some have even popped more than once.

The thing is, the MZR is based off of the old Z-engine technology... from the old 1.6 four of the Protege. The big question being... how close is it to the old engine?

Does it still use the same output shaft? can it mate with the older trannies? What about engine mounts (though it's not that hard to customize those)?

It's not impossible... it's just that the number of things the engines don't have in common will be a limiting factor in how expensive it'll be.

I've seen so many hybrids (SR20 Corollas, 4AGE Ford Festivas, Rotary MX3s (no, I'm not kidding)) that I've learned not to say no to half-assed questions like this... merely because the only limits on what you can do to the car always boils down to these two questions:

"How much money do you have?"

or

"How ghetto do you want it?" :)

But if someone figures it out, and offers it as a kit like the Nissan boys are doing for the VQ35DE V6 in the Sentra... then I'll happily pay cross-Pacific shipping to get one.
