Mazdaspeed3 Dyno! 215whp 245wtq

thanks! I think i predicted 230whp/250wtq a few months ago. that's an odd looking dyno, but i can see how the power looks really weak in the low end, especially after flooring it at such a low rpm-- we have an ETB (electronic throttle body). If we had a traditional cable-driven TB, the graph would probably start at 75-100wtq instead of 50wtq due to instant demand.

it probably has to do with the intelligent torque management, I wouldn't be surprised if the dyno is overall lower than reality due to this or the dsc/tc.

Boost controller to hold boost to redline plus cai and turboback can put it very close to 300/300

equal lenght tubular exhaust manifold, cams, lightweight pulleys and flywheel... dreaming :)

Do you guys think we will get some sort of chip like VW does with their turbo engines that might fix at least the upper portion of the revolutions?

Damn, that motor moves a lot. I thought the msp has soft motor mounts.

you know what? I was thinking the same thing.... lol after its 3rd gear run I thought the engine was going to jump out of the front of the car...

I think a chip could potentially help since it is a lot like an audi direct injection turbocharged engine... But will the aftermarket support the MS3 with its limited production run?

Fan placement during TMIC dyno

Anybody with experience dynoing TMIC turboed cars want to weigh in on the effect of fan placement? If they're just blowing air at the front of the car, how's the TMIC gonna even get the same amount of cooling as an FMIC? The MS6/3 has ducting that runs from the top of the grille along the hood and shoots air down into the TMIC through an opening that mates up with the top of TMIC when the hood is closed. How does a fan at the front come anywhere near providing that amount of cooling air?

I can't see the vid from work but if they're not blowing air to the IC then the numbers are much lower than they should be...

the PCM will retard timing if the intake temp is too high

What that's alot less than I expected :(. Look at the MS6 number's! I hope those dyno were'nt done in third gear. I'm a bit disapointed if the car is loosing 50 horse power in the drive train, or Mazda inflated it's numbers again. The MS6 only lost like 15-20hp when compared on the dyno and the MSP 20hp. What's up with those numbers...?

That is why I won't buy a turbo car. Boost leaks, turbo lag, power loss it's all to much hassle. N/A all the way.

Nah, did you read their review on the GTI they liked it alot. And the MSP is still hands down one of, if not the best, FWD handling car. It at the very least ranks in the top 3. I just that wasn't a third gear pull, or Mazda better deflate the numbers a little.

well althought the numbers are disappointing, someone above raised a good question about fan placement. I dont know how they placed the fan but the TMIC was not getting adequate cooling, nevermind optimistic cooling like any other FMIC would with the fan ont he front. The only way the TMIC works is because of the duct on the hood that delivers cold air directly on top of the TMIC. Unless they can replicate that on the dyno you will be getting lower numbers that real life.
