MazdaSpeed Shift knob

I noticed that the sparco shift knob is pretty damn tall. Dont get me wrong it's nice and all but i have a white Razo shift ball that will be replacing it. Now here is my question. The sparco shift knob screws in the bottom and looks like it's about 4 maybe 5 inchs tall. My shift knob is maybe 2 inchs tall at the max. B/c of this smaller size will it make my throw any shorter or is it just gonna feel shorter b/c my hand is closer to the ground? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

when the shift knob is shorter and lower...it's only going to 'feel' like your throws are shorter...
the knob alone has nothing to do with a short shifter.
 
I have the stock "ball type shift knob for the p5. Whould you want to trade? Or, I will buy the sparco one off of you if you are looking to sell it.
 
More than likely i can sell it if anyone wants to buy it. I will be buying a short throw shifter when i get the car anyways and the current shifter wont work. So i will be selling the sparco...but let me get the car first before i go and start making promises.

There are two ways to shorten your shifter throw:
1) Shorten the shifter above the pivot point.
2) Lengthen the shifter below the pivot point.
Of course a shorter knob will make your shift throw 'feel' shorter. Because it will be :).

granted, mathamatically you are correct....but the amount it will truely shorten the throw of the shifter ABOVE the pivot point will be minimal....I believe when you remove the stock shift knob that comes on the car...you are going to find that the actual shifter shaft extends nearly to the top of the knob thru its center.

true short shifters use BOTH #1 and #2 above to make a marked difference.
