Mazdaspeed Racing Seat

Some other guy in minnesota bought them, he said they dont fit.

I bought a pair like them, (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33701&item=7927015038&rd=1). They took just over 8 hours to install. They are not sparcos, but then again, they don't cost any where near what sparcos cost. I fit these seats into the stock brackets, if you are handy I am sure you could do it too. They fit good, they are solid, the way I mounted them, the frame of the car will be need to break before the seats ever come out. I got my seats for $360 shipped to my door. The seats look great, they make a nice addition for show purposeses, they are pritty comfortable too. My only issue with them is that they sit a little high maby like 2 inches higher, no big deal. If you have any more questions let me know, I will try to post pictures if I can remember.

damn they fit??? 8 hours eh.... i heard they dont fit at all....

If you check my link, these are avalible, and these are the seat that I bought, they do fit, with some mods to the stock bracket. The dimensions are posted on both seats. The seats I bought are 20.5" with across the bottom, this is pushing it. The seats that you are looking at are 22" across the bottom. So, I would not be suprised if they did not fit into our MSP's. The seats that I bought look good, and they have MAZDASPEED embroidered into the head rest. If you are looking for cheep seats I would recomend going with the ones that I bought, that link is for a current bid with buy it now option of 185.99 + 160 Shipping. The seat that I bought were shipped on time with no problems. Another reason why I wanted to use the stock brackets is because I wanted to keep my stock seat belts. Our seat belts are attached to the stock braket and I did not feel like trying to reattach the the seat belts to new brackets. If you decide to by these seats let me know I will try to give you as much help and advise as possible.

I was thinking of getting the same seats Zoom-Zoom. If you have any pictures or descriptions of what exactly was needed to install them, that would be great. Plus some finished product pics too. Thanks

I will put the pictures on the forum tomorrow, but until then, I will try to be as comprehensive as possible with my rendition of the installation for these seats.

  • I started by removing the stock seats, the bottom of the seat and the seat back, only. The bottom of the stock seat is attached to the stock bracket underneath the seat. The back of the bracket is attached to the stock bracket through the sides. (I had to unbolt, not remove, the center counsel to get at the inside bolts on the seats brackets. Once you have the stock seats completely removed all you should have are the stock bracket, with the seat belt attached. (One pointer is to do the passenger side seat first, just incase you need to run to the hardware store to get some parts.)

The stock holes in the stock bracket line up about to of an inch outside the holes on the new seats. So what I did was, took a rotary grinding tool, bought from Sears Hardware, attached it to a cordless drill, and made the hole in the stock brackets slightly larger (See my quick rendition to the right, you want to make the hole more oblong toward the inside of the seat bracket.) There is plenty of material on the stock bracket so you wont have to worry about a week part in you seat. You will only need to do this on each of the two front brackets in both the driver side and passenger side seats; you do not have to do this for the back ones holes.
  • After you have completed steps 1&2 you can bolt up the front of the seat you will still have to fidget the seat a little because it is not a perfect fit, but it does the job. (You may want to reuse the stock bolts because they seemed to catch better on the threads in the seat, then the bolts did that came with the new seat.
  • <v:shape id=_x0000_s1027 style="MARGIN-TOP: 28.85pt; Z-INDEX: -1; LEFT: 0px; MARGIN-LEFT: 225pt; WIDTH: 218.65pt; POSITION: absolute; HEIGHT: 84.3pt; TEXT-ALIGN: left; mso-position-horizontal: absolute; mso-position-horizontal-relative: text; mso-position-vertical: absolute; mso-position-vertical-relative: text" type="#_x0000_t75" wrapcoords="-74 0 -74 21407 21600 21407 21600 0 -74 0"><v:imagedata o:title=\"\" src="file:///C:DOCUME~1rkralLOCALS~1Tempmsohtml111clip_image003.png"></v:imagedata><w:wrap type="square"></w:wrap></v:shape>The back two holes in the seat are pretty far off the holes in the stock bracket, they are not only about a to in outside the holes in the new seat, but they are also about 2 full inches back from the holes in the new seat. So, here is what I did, I made a small bracket to bridge the gap, I made this out of pieces of metal that you brace shelves with, I think they were about 10 long and about 1/8th of an inch thick, you can get two small braces out of each shelving brace. (I will have to get you exact specs later.) The metal I used was thicker than the metal used to make the stock bracket so it is not going to break. I bought new screws to bolt my brace that I made to the bracket; I also used nylon lock nuts just for a little insurance. (So the parts you need are 2 Thick shelving braces, four small bolts, four nylon lock nuts for these bolts, and four washers for these bolts.) You need to bolt one side of the bracket up to the seats, again it might be better to use the stock bolts. Then bolt the other side of the bracket that you made down to you stock bracket with the new bolt, washer, and nylon lock nut that you bought. Do this for both sides in back. After you have finished this step, you will have one passenger side seat that is not going anywhere, and hopefully you will be a pro for the installation on the drivers side seat.
  • The drivers side seat regrettably, is a little more complicated, because our MSP are equipped with multiple way adjustable seats, the installation is the same, you will need to enlarge the front holes in the bracket and use your new bracket combo for the back holes. And again you will still have to do a lot of fidgeting with the seats to make them fit properly. I will warn you that I did encounter one problem. The new seats are slightly too big for our brackets and the have a tendency to spread the two sides of the brackets apart from each other. This is not a problem on the passenger side but it is on the driver side. If you turn your seat adjusters too much you can break the front adjuster. The why these adjusters work is, there is a gear at the end of the knob that you turn, this engage s a partial gear that is hooked to a rod , that rod is hooked to the front bracket mounts. The rod on my car came out of the hole that it was situated in on the side of the bracket that is closest to the drivers side door. The two gears were disengaged and they did function properly. (I would suggest printing these directions off and reading them while looking at you car, it will make a hell of a lot more sense.) So what I did was, I put a self tapping screw, with a large head, that wont go through the hole, that fits very tightly, in the end of that rod, you will see the rod has a hole in it, and I put a few washers on the end of the rod to keep it from popping through the hole. This will keep the rod in its proper place, and keep the gears engaged, because again, the gear is attached to the rod and it will disengage if the rod pops through the hole. I would recommend doing this before waiting for it to break, like I did.

A final note, I would only recommend tackling this install if you have a lot of patience, are handy, and you can make sense of these directions. This is not an easy install; you will be swearing your head off at certain points, just like I was(pissed) !!! But if you can do it, the reward is awesome(yippy) ! I will post pictures tomorrow; I usually put in about 30 hours of work on just Friday and Saturday, so this limits my time. If you have any more questions let me know and if you want the specs of the parts that I used let me know. Good luck and I hope this helps you. (I referred to two diagrams above, I thought I knew how to post pictures, but I dont, I will have to have my brother show me how. So, will post these diagrams with pictures of the seats tomorrow.)

Here are the pics that were supposed to go with my installation directions. Image 1 corresponds to the second bullet point, and image 2 corresponds to the fourth bullet point. Sorry it took so long to post these pics, I did not have a web site setup, but I do now. I will have the other pics up ASAP, they are in my little brothers camera. I just need to post them now. sorry bro, to much coffee, not enought sleep. I will have pics of the seats in my car, by this weekend, I took my a while to figure out the whole web site set up.

Not being critical, but I would think a solid bar across the back would be more effective/safer. Do you know what I mean, instead of 2 small brackets?

Hey Zoom-Zoom03 nice write up. Could you post a few pics of the seats in your car?

Thanks in advance!
