Mazdaspeed Protege - Hesitation Under Acceleration

I was wondering if I went to the dealer and let them reprogram my ecu because of the:
MAZDASPEED PROTEGE - HESITATION UNDER ACCELERATION
Applicable Models
Model Starting S/N Ending S/N
2003 PROTEGE 00000000 ZZZZZZZZ

If the new settings would be okay with a CAI, BPV, and possibly exaust. Because in the thread it was talkin about if you have after market mods you may blow up your engine. Does anyone know if simple mods like CAI, BPV, exaust and FMIC will cause a blow up with new ECU settings?

I don't know the answer to that but I have an '03 MSP like yours and mine hesitates ocasionally too. How do I know what is hesitation and what is turbo lag?

Well I have done some in depth reading and found some stuff. Aparently inbetween about 4000-5500 respectivly, it feels like your engine is loosing power and then after 5500 rpm it picks back up. Whats happening is that the ECU floods the engine with gas for some technical reason and you bogg out. There are new setting for you ECU that will eliminate that problem, you can get your ECu reset at any dealer.

if your mazda dealer is a mazdaspeed specific dealership than they can "reflash" your ecu which helps with the hesitation. Hey , nice ride by the way!

I heard that the hesitation you get from the car is a fuel cut defense against detonation. Like it's the car's failsafe way to keep you from popping a motor. I could be wrong though.

Well that it what the origionally designed it for, but with people that arent modding it up all it does is bogg you down. Now all im wondering is if I add things like CAI, FMIC, exaust, and BPV if the engine will detonate?????

Yes the new settings will be ok with these mods. However if you go in your local Mazdaspeed Dealer may not be ok with them if you have them on the car at the time of service.

Because in the thread it was talkin about if you have after market mods you may blow up your engine.

What this means is most people try to up there boost, which is ok to a certian extent which IMO is around 10 PSI if NOT FLASHED. Reason being is when you get the flash it advances timing in the 3500-4700ish range which can cause detonation at higher boost levels (above 9-10 psi.)

The only real answer here is it may or may not, just depends on what PSI you try to run your car at. At the stock 7.5 PSI the mods you listed above would have no ill effects on your motor. [/quote]

I was under the impression the only way you're gonna blow the engine is if you up the boost. All the reflash does is advance the timing. Dont mess with the boost you should be okay. Someone call me on it if i'm wrong.

Yeah I definatly dont plan on upping the boost at all and definatly not above 10psi.
