I have the opportunity to buy a Mazdaspeed intake and wanted to know if there are any issues with them. Is there any reason most people go with a different brand?

It's almost twice the price of a normal one. Do a search and it's basically just a rebadged intake that some one else made. I can't remember the company...

Its rebadged AEM intake. If you get the mazdaspeed intake new it will most likely cost you almost double what a aftermarket CAI would cost. They are very straightforward to install so honestly I would just get an aftermarket brand like injen, fujita, AEM, cobb, CPE, etc. Only benefit of mzdspd intake is if you have it installed for a crazy price by an authorized mazda dealer you can leave it in for warranty work. Honestly it only takes about 25 min to install (less once you know what ur doing) so you can just take it out for dealer visits.

Lastly the new CAI's only really have 1 issue. That is hydrolock which basically means you suck up water through your intake which isn't good. This can happen if you drive through a big puddle fast.

If your going to buy new get a SRI. Dont have to worry about hydrolock.
