Just asked the dealer about 30k service and they said that the service entails flushing the coolant among other things. Looking at the mazda web site it states that the coolant doesn't need to be replaced until 125k....!!

I mentioned this discrpancy and they said that mabye the website hasn't been updated yet but it does seem strange that it would go from 125k down to 30k.... I always thought modern coolant lasts long time....

Thinking of calling Mazda USA and see what they say....

I feel stealership is in the customer rake mode....

There is no doubt they will get the uneducated customer. What year is your speed6 and what climate are you in typically? I would flush the radiator every 3 years anyway. Better safe than sorry. Just not sure I would pay them $100 to do it.

Called Mazda USA and they stated not very confidently that her service maintenance schedule stated 60,000 miles.....ridiculous....when I bring it in tomorrow I'll talk to the service manager and ask for written proof...

Wish I had my own garage but I am just a poor condo shmuck :)

"Dealer" recommended services can vary widly from "MFG" recommended service intervals. Go by what the owners manual states for schedule "b" or severe maint duty servicing and you will be fine....

Yea I asked my dealer the same thing at 30k and they said all they will do is inspect drive belts and gas lines. Asked how much and the girl said anywhere from 500-900. I said no thanks. Ill wait for the 60k.

everything they inspect can be done by anyone. you are just looking for any signs of wear and tear on the belts, checking all the fluid levels, etc.

That is one of the main reasons I have gotten into mazdas now. I had Honda's for years and hated the constant maintenance that was required. I could do it all myself but still they always needed something. But mazdas are different. My wifes Mazda6 wagon needs nothing til 60k miles. I change the oil myself and monitor everything else. And from what I see with the Speed6 I drive it only needs inspections until 60k miles and oil changes. So I am gonna do it all myself . I think that the only thing that may need changing sooner is the diff and transaxle fluids. But that is easy. Realistically though most people never need to do what the dealer says. They always are just looking for money. I just do it myself other than the warranty things that come up.

Qwik6, do you feel a difference with the shock tower brace? Does it feel stiffer in turns?

I can tell you that on my cars personally i would raher keep fresh fluids in it than not. Transmission fluids do break down and get hot and cold and everything else, would you buy mobil one oil that says 15k on it and go 15k without changing your oil? Probably not, all the cars i service every3k, 7500 miles, 15k, 30, 60k, ect are very good cars with no or little problems, it also promotes good communication/relationship with you and your dealer

I had my 30k just done. I went ahead and had the coolant flush and change done. But I live in Florida..it is WAY HOT down here. I also had the trans gear oil changed and the differential too.

I didnt think it would be a big improvement. But as soon as I took it down the road it made a big difference. The car seems more planted to the road when it gets bumpy and rough. The turns are much better and there seems to be much less understeer. On a 90 I turn on near my work I could take it at 45-50 and the tires would squeel and the car would understeer. Now it is no problem. Havent pushed it hard enough to find out.

when i do 30k services i update the pcm and tcm (if equiped) so the customer can fully benefit from the services. I also reset the KAM and relearn all the drive modes for the customer
