Just kinda dissapointing. A MSP with some work will do that. Eh well. Looks really cool. (nana)

by that logic this car with some work will do even more - so your point....?

Yeah, but it's not like it's a brand newly modified car. I mean in the article it said they didn't even intend to let anyone find out about it. It's probably an early prototype too, since it has no VIN number, so if they were gonna do more to it, the probably would have BEFORE the story on it went to press.

I'm just saying, if that's all the Mazdaspeed is gonna be capable of and they're gonna charge 40K for it? Screw it.

quote from article:
"Mazda's dissenting crew of engineers thought so too, so they bolted a supercharger to the 2-rotor Wankel."

isn't the wankel the older rx engine? and the renesis the newer one?

I do believe you're right. You think it's just a mistake? or did they revert back to the Wankel for some reason?

And to whoever said all rotaries are Wankels - wrong.
Are all light bulbs "Franklins"? Are all internal combustion engines "Fords"? Don't think so.
The latest rotary engine is a Renesis.

uhh...okay... Renesis is just the name of it. You can call it a Wankel still because it is the same design as a Wankle motor. Same priniciple.

Franklin didnt invent the light bulb...
Ford didnt invent the internal combustion enginer either...

Wankel is a style of engine, not a company or particular model. A renesis engine is still a wankel, no matter what marketing words they wanna slap on top of it.

its actually a 13B with different ports if you want to get really technical about it. Calling it a wankel is like calling a bandage a "band aid" or saying you are going to "xerox" something when you copy it.

I said it and I'm right. I drive an RX-8 for pete's sake.

Look, Dr. Felix Wankel came up with the idea for a rotary engine sometime around WW2. The engine design was named the wankel for a reason. Watch Top Gear, Clarkson calls the Renesis a "wankel rotary engine."

The Renesis is a type of wankel. All it means is genesis or rebirth of the rotary. The only difference between a renesis and the old NA 13B is the relocation of the exhaust ports from the side to the peripheral of the housing. The Renesis comes in two flavors, a 6 port 238 hp and a 4 port 198. Other advancements include higher quality and higher compression apex and side seals.

12A, 13B, 13B-T, 13B-REW, 20B-REW, and Renesis are all production versions of Wankel's original rotary design, hence the engine type "wankel rotary engine."

Go read on RX7club.com, RX8club.com, and nopistons.com. Tell the guys there that the Renesis is not a wankel, and see how much you get flamed.

I want a 20b in my p5 :D

Memo, don't try to keep fighting, you already made yourself look like a complete ass.

You should be required to know this stuff if you wanna own a mazda. Kinda like people should have to go through an application process to wear a thong.

true the name "renesis" means "re-invent" and "genesis".... re-invent the current design and Genesis for taking it back to it's simple roots.

p.s. either way the Renesis engine is BADASS.

So they're going to charge $40k for this super secret new RX-8? I like fiction.

Also, what does "it only beat a poor man's Porsche and a 350Z" mean? The Boxster S and the 350Z are garbage unworthy of your approval? Gee, I will remember to come get your blessing before I get my next car. Thanks.

The Boxster S and the 350Z are still very fast and well handling cars, and this car turned in a faster lap time. Take that for what it is. It doesn't instantly make the 350z and Porsche Boxster S pure garbage. It is arrogant to assume so, having not driven any of the aforementioned cars. Nor does it make the RX-8 somehow infinitely "better." I bet on the road all 3 cars have their distinctive personalities that appeal to a certain group of drivers.
I for one appreciate each car on its own merits. Throwing prices and lap times around is about as useful as burning styrofoam to keep warm.

Also, the Boxster S is in the low $50k range, even if Mazda didn't want to sell one fictional renegade RX-8, and priced it at $40k, it still sounds to me like you're getting a lot for your "money". The average RX-8 price today is around 29k, making your "$40k" claim that much more exagerated.

So stop pulling things out of your ass, please.

Jees, somebody took a grouchy pill this morning.

I said in my post that the 350Z is fast, and duh the porsche is, but it just deosn't seem like it is a huge improvement for the car to only get a few more HP and be able to beat a car (Z) that it was designed to compete with.

I guesstimated the 40K price tag based on the fact that Mazda charges out the ass for new special models. The MSP when it first came out was selling for like $22K. That's 7-8K more than a normaml sedan. So figure that's a 50% increase in price, same with the MSM, I said 40K as a round figure. To be more precise, I suppose it would be around $38,000 according to past Mazdaspeed prices.

Did I offend your mother in my post or somthing? Cause you seemd to get really upset.

Yes, you offended my mother, please apologize immediately, or I will ask a mod to delete this thread kthx.

anarchist - MSRP on the MSP was 20,500. what dealers were able to sell for is a different story....

Looks good overall, but I prefer the mazdaspeed RX-8 body kit over that one.

Plus, the $3K Greddy turbo kit for the RX-8 makes more power than that does.
