Mazda's PCV fix

:
06 LS MS6
07 BM GT (shell has been struck from the roll)
well. unlike most of my posts, this one will get a look.

but seriously, what is happening here ? anyone have an Idea of what the trouble/bottleneck is, and if I can paste in a temp solution while I wait for mazda NA to release a TSB, or even a recall

I asked the SM about the PCV fix, since he was the one who gave me the info initially. His last update was on a CX-7 that had come in earlier last week and had already been replaced with 5w-40, and was due for a 2nd oil change. They didn't authorize the second oil change, but went ahead with a turbo replacement. The SM seems to think that the issue still lies in the turbo. He also informed me that the PCV fix may not be out until sometime next year, possibly not until next fall. They are still conducting tests to verify that the PCV system is the issue.

aw, interesting
so, spend as much as possible to prove it is the cheaper fix that is the issue

you would think that a bit of running with a pcv wented to atmosphere would point one ay or the other.

but maybe it is as complex as the electronix on this fickle beast

numbers

what is the ratio between cx7 and ms3 as far as production numbers ???

sorry dude, there are no numbers. at least Mazda has never released that info.

well I mean how many cx7 did they sell and how many ms3

just wondering if there is a much larger database of trouble to work with on the cx7
are all the cx7 turbo, or is it an option?

07 and 08 cx-7 have same mzr disi turbo engine but i think in 09 they added a 2.5 L n/a option... someone else can verify this

um...i think it actually started for the 2010 model year...so even more brand new.

but the 2.3 turbo has been around since the ms6 so it's been out for consumers since 2005. going on 5 years basically unchanged. so maybe the problem is so minute that mazda just wont do anything for cost effectiveness

it can happen with the cx7

thanks for clearing up the 2010 date for the n/a engine

My turbo smokes, but I hardly am ever idle long enough to have it start (I only found out because I tested it by letting it idle 5 minutes after a 45 minute highway run)... does this mean my turbo will still go out eventually even if I don't let it idle or run it at low speeds long enough to cause it to leak the oil and smoke?

Thanks for copying that Hank. It's all up in the air right now as to when we might see something. There's been a lot of discussion if its the turbo or the PCV, but both could have issues and not be completely solved, at least that's what it looks like right now.

Hopefully we see/hear something by the end of 2009 on the direction this is going, and know what to expect. I have a thread in here that has been updated as well with the original TSB (MTOL-5505 if you need to reference it).
