I have a friend at school thats looking into buying either the 3 or 5. I dont know a whole lot about them soo..

Lets get a comparison going, include stock verses what you can add on to the car, appearance, everything..

I test drove a 3s 5-door right before buying my p5. I don't like the looks of the 3 as much as I do the 5. The road noise seemed a tad bit worse in the 3. I really like the interior of the 3, both the leather and the 2-tone fabric. The brushed aluminum looks really sharp. I didn't have a chance to really open up the 3, so I don't know much about top speed or anything. BUt most of all the 3 costs a heck of a lot more than a 5.

3 is faster stock, only thing i like about it more then the 5, no offense 3 owners...

I like the 3. But the front grill is ugly. Overall I choose the P5.

Its a substantial price difference between these cars. That should decide it alone.

the 5 isn't nearly the "car" the 3 is but it has sharper handling (despite its worse grip), arguably better looks, and a much lower price

I like my p5 but I'd trade it for a 3 any day!

I agree with 1sty. Since they no longer make the 5, clearly you're comparing a new car to a used one. The difference in price will be HUGE! (we're talking like a 30+% difference in price bro!)

I personally think the styling of the 3 5 door is wack. nothing seems to flow.... it's like the freakin stegasaurus of cars! maybe it'll grow on me in time but... the P5 definitely has it in the looks dept. Tell your friend to find a sweet deal on a P5 and use some of that money they saved for some kick ass mods. They're certainly more than enough of those to go around these days.

If your friend value hp over anything, then he should get a 3.
But if he cares about the look more then a P5 for sure cause P5 does look better than the Mazda3-5. I guess I don't have to talk about the handling issue here cause everyone knows the P5 handle better than the Mazda3, but it's not like this is an unsolvable issue, there are mod out there you can do to make the Mazda3 handles better. But the looks and the hp thing aren't as easy to be solved, so just tell him to ask himself if he want the better looking car or the faster (slightly) car.

Talking about headunits, my friend in Vancouver BC owns a Mazda3-5.
His stock in-dash single CD-player isn't very good, it skips all the time even the car run over highway joints. I never have that problem in my P5 stock cd-player. But I guess this won't be a problem if he plans to have an aftermarket headunit installed anyway.

I would go with the 5, I've driven the 3 and yes it is a little faster but not by much

I've ran a couple of 3 wagons and my 5 keeps right up with them. My only mods are a AEM CAI at the time and no second cat

so.........long and short....go with the 5

Tell your friend to buy a P5. It has a great reliability record. I know the 3 hasn't been out for very long but you could compare it to the car is shares a platform with... The Ford Focus, which has been out longer than the 5. Besides that just take the cash you save on the 5 and put some boost under the hood, that should take car of any HP issues.

I'll get the 3 because of its HID lights, faster than the 5 and its wider kinda like the european cars. Unlike the 5 when you look at it from the rear it looks like a geo metro.
Overall I'll get the 3 sedan.

The 3 only has more power stock, whoop te doo, big harry ******* deal, so does the spectra 5

THERE ARE MORE MODZ FOR THE P5 AS ITS BEEN AROUND ALOT LONGER FOR THE AFTERMARKET TO PLAY WITH

Theres not much curently for the 3, but who cares, Its UGLY, the grill looks like a Roman nose or something, And if you want to brush up the look there are plenty of body kits, and fender flaires

For what he would pay for a 3, you can get a P5 and turbo charge it and BLOW PAST THE 3'S ALL DAY LONG!

Get a ******* cat and CAI and blow the 3's away all day long

And just because the car has 10 more ponies, doesnt nesesarily mean its faster (it very well could be) but the HP wont dictate that for certain, especially a small diference like that

Me Im yet to see a 3 at the track, let alone at the track with a driver I know is good (bad drivers = bad times)

id say Mazda3, its got a better interior design and improved performance, and stylewise its much better than p5
