Mazda6 V6 - burns 1qt of oil every 7k miles

I have a 2007 Mazda6 S V6 with 45,123 miles on it. I had the oil light come on this week. Nothing seemed wrong, but I still brought it home and parked it. It was time for an oil change anyways, so I changed the oil last night. I found I was 1qt of oil low, would this have caused the oil light to come one?

Also, I found the V6 burns 1qt of oil every 7,000 miles. Is this normal? I have had my suspicions in the past, but I finally measured it out. I currently run Mobile1 5w-20. Would changing to a different oil help prevent this?

Any input to the oil light and the burning oil would be greatly appreciated.

I have noticed the same thing. I am at about 36k also running the fully synthetic Mobil1 5w-20 and am thinking about switching oils. I though the theory of synthetic was that it didn't burn off and break down like conventional, but another thing to think about is also your filter. I run the high capacity Mobil1 filter and it is usually really really full, so you have to think about that too. It might not be as low as your think. I am told that it has something to do with the PCV on this car however. After thinking about it though, 7k miles is a long time in between oil changes so 1qt over that span isn't bad. My oil light has never come on, is it possible that this car has a "reminder" light that needs to be reset?

I am running the Ford Motorsport oil fileter. After tons of research, the Ford filter is a great filter, not to mention you can pick one up for $3 at WalMart. I'm wondering if the Ford filter can't go 7k miles between oil changes. I'm thinking I'm goingn to back down to oil changes every 5k, or pony up the $10 for the K&N filters. I haven't read about an oil change indicator light though.

You might check the PCV valve. Those have been known to fail on the earlier V6s (not sure if 2007 was affected or not) and cause loss of oil.
