Mazda6 GT first 2 months

Already there is a hole in my muffler or manifold by the sound it makes at a certain rpm it becomes very annoying, actually embarassing being a brand new car with this problem. My fuel economy is way higher than what they claim no matter how I drive. My gas cap that kept falling off to the ground was snapped back on which put a dent in the gas cap door metal which seems like tin-foil. And my biggest concern is the transmission which sometimes very slightly sends a grinding vibration through the gear shifter to my hand. And the gear changes from 1st to 2nd is winding-like it takes too long to actually make the shift. I don't feel like even washing the car anymore. With tax it was $44 500.00 for the luxury pack, a tint and mud flaps. Seeing the service department today and will continue this story tomorrow.

You have a warranty right?

I find it funny that people expect things to be perfect. It's a car that's made up of hundreds of thousands of parts that was assembled by robots that were programmed by human beings small things are going to happen. The muffler may have been defective or you may have hit something. The gas cap is faulty and they should repair the dent since it was caused by the defective gas cap. The tranny sound like it could be a failure of some kind.

But people this is why cars have warranties. There will always be a chance of some defects. Read any consumer report review and they always note the sample defects on all the cars they test. It's just the result of a complicated system being built at the lowest cost possible.

I feel your annoyance though, I'm struggling with a couple of rattles on my MS3, but I always try to put it in perspective. I also may have more patience since I work with the manufacturing industry.

No reason why you should be so depressed.

parts

..you're right, a car is a complex machine but I should not have to be patient with things not working like they should when it's brand spanking new. It's supposed to be perfect, except for one in a thousand
(so the salesman told me).

Service said, there are no leaks in the muffler and the computer didn't pick up on any transmission problems. I just said ok, that's good and drove home, happy until I heard the noise again and felt the grind through the shifter again. What's more frustrating than that?

Well, dealers will tend to dodge any repair no matter what.

Just drive and hope it breaks faster so they can replace the whole tranny , lol.

At least when I had my warranty they covered for everything , including rented car .

give it time and make be careful

The problem with consumers is that they expect products to be perfect. And in most cases they are but even if a 1,000 out of a million cars are faulty it's still only .001 percent failure rate, which is nearly perfect. And remember out of that million you have ~100,000 parts per car. So the odds are actually against you when it comes to buying a perfect ANYTHING.

I know it's frustrating but everything is imperfect. The only reason people think Honda or Toyota are any better is because of Marketing. They too have the same issues it's just the luck of the draw.

Did the dealer actually drive your car? Did you go with them and point out the noise?

For Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars, it's not reasonable to expect things to be done correctly? Mmm I'll disagree.

Marketing has nothing to do with Honda's rep, not sure about Toyota. Marketing DOES have a big thing to do with Honda's "resale value" which is BS though. Toyota may be living off their reputation, but Consumer Reports goes off of actual "incidents reported" to Cars Sold, and certain cars do come out ahead (Lexus, Acura, Subaru) . . . Mazda is middle of the road yet most of Deustcheland is trailing (why do Mercedes commercials advertise "rated first place in initial quality" --- because after it breaks, it's just like a GM).

I'm not bashing Mazda - but the fact that my passenger occupancy sensor can't detect anyone under 100lbs (when the threshold is supposed to be 60lbs) is NOT an acceptable fault tolerance. I still like the car, it's a lot of fun, and more reliable than most Korean or German cars . . .

Expecting everything to be perfect is unreasonable, expecting them to fix something that's not right is perfectly reasonable . . .

I did not mean to imply that issues shouldn't be solved. Just that failures can never be reduced to zero. That's why warranties exist. The fact that your sensor is off by 40lbs isn't about tolerance it's a defect- especially when you consider that such a defect is a safety issue. I would get it replaced.

What frustrates me is that people have this impression that manufacturers like Toyota and Honda manufacturer are free of all defects while companies like Mazda aren't. The fact is that ALL manufacturing are prone to defects- it's just a fact, especially when you create products that contain hundreds of thousands of parts.

I get annoyed with defects just as much as anyone, but to lash out and make blanket claims about a company or a vehicle because you were unlucky enough to experience the 1 defect in 1,000 vehicles is unreasonable.

Bottom line: deal with it. Unless the problems are reoccuring or the product has a chronic list of failures over a short time take advantage of the warranty and move on. That's what it's there for. And if a manufacturer continues to show inconsistent quality over time then vote with your wallet.

I've owned about 10 vehicles, 6 of which were/are Mazdas, and the balance of which were Toyotas, Nissans and Hondas. And I experienced no difference in reliability or quality across those brands. In fact I would place Mazda above the other brands for one reason- Zoom-Zoom.
