everyone loves this car. most often hear comment: this is a very smart car.

we hate to call it a mini-van, but thats what it is.

We bought a 2006 model that has been sitting on the lot for some time and we paid $18,000 not including tax. keep in mind it is a 5 speed, touring model with foglights.

2. Sliding doors
3. Middle seating can convert from 3 seater to a 2 seater
6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
1. Have a place to put the luggage cover when the third row of seats are used
7. Do you plan to make any modifications?
Add tint to windows. TS2 model does not have tinted windows
8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
Seen none until i visited a Ford/Mazda dealership to look at a Ford C-Max three months ago. Since then have seen 3 on the road. For some reason they are not that popular here. The MPV market is dominated by Vauxhall and VW
9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?
When i went with my family to the garage they veered towards the Mazda while i was walking towards the ford.
10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?

Engine, needs a V6 or turbo. Wish it had the center seating like the euro edition. Less chrome on the tail lights.

Body kit, rims, HID*, rear spoiler, shark fin antenna*, exhaust, led tail lights or blacked out tail lights/ headlights.

Yeah, but none fixed up yet.

We were all set to get an Element, but I couldn't live with it being strictly a 4-seater. Had I known the Kia Sedona was a tremendous improvement over the 1st-gen, I would have given it serious consideration too.

Seating/space, price, style
6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
Manual heat/AC controls vs. electronic, 16" wheels, more space around the gas pedal, can hardly drive in boots.
Also, make the dome light reachable from the driver's seat, or a switch on the dash for it.

Other than trying to downsize to some 16" Mazda 3 wheels, no.

A few, but they're still pretty rare.

My first Mazda, but my wife's second Mazda (a Mazda 323 was her first car).
4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?
Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna, but they didn't fit the budget.
In the under $20,000 price range, we considered Mazda3, Toyota Yaris, Corolla, Honda Fit, Civic, Accord.
The Mazda5 hits right between compact cars and vans in price, size, number of seats, fuel economy, and fun-to-drive feeling.
5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?
Price/Value
Seats six (more than the five seats typical in a sedan or wagon)
Smaller than a van makes for better fuel economy and more fun drive
Sliding doors
(sorry, couldn't limit myself to three reasons)
6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Traction Control System (TCS)
Six-speed manual transmission
7. Do you plan to make any modifications?
Nothing major. Definitely window tint. Maybe iPod adapter.
8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
Not many. We might see one in an entire day out. My family makes a game out of identifying all the Mazdas we see and we pay special attention looking out for the Mazda5.
9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?
Frankly, I'm disappointed that I've had my Mazda5 for three weeks and no one has asked me about it.
10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?
It's a compact wagon, that happens to have a third row of seating and sliding doors. It might look like a minivan in the pictures, but it's hard to get a sense of scale until you're standing next to it or sitting in it. Then you realize it's a compact car that happens to be lengthened a bit.
11. What question did I forget to ask?
How many kids? Two kids, so we'll be a family of four most times in the Mazda5. Still it's nice to know that we can take one or two more folks with us, depending on how much room we need for cargo.

Wasn't considering anything else. Probably would still be driving my Mazda3 if the 5 didn't exist.

More power, limited slip front diff, better interior lighting for rear passengers.
