(boom04)

- Either redesign the front dash to give a bit more room for the legs (knees) or take the seat back 2 notches

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?
Seating for six, Manual transmission available.

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options available for it, what would they be?

We will tint the windows and get a cargo box

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
As soon as we considered one, we started seeing them more often.

People like the "Tardis" effect. It seems bigger on the inside than the outside.

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?
I think it's best described as a MicroVan.

11. What question did I forget to ask?
What do we think about it? (love it)

Hello every one. New Mazda5 owner here.

1. Which model / color / transmission / options / etc. did you get?
Silver Grand Touring with Nav pkg. and automatic.

2. Whereabouts are you located?
Southern California.

3. Is this your first Mazda?
No. I owned a 1982 RX-7. It was one of the best cars I've ever owned. Absolutely the most fun to drive. My brother had a 626 of the same approximate vintage.

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?
We were looking at anything with 3 rows of seats. The behemoth Sierra and Odyssey never made the short list. It came down to the Volvo XC90, the Subaru Tribeca, and the 5.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?
1. Because of the low belt line, it has a very airy feel inside. It gives the illusion of spaciousness.
2. Efficient form factor. Puts the "mini" back into minivan.
3. Fuel economy.

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
1. Power sliding doors. Why is it that the rest of the world enjoys this convenience but we in the U.S. we are deprived? Ridiculous!
2. I'd like to see cup holders in the sliding doors, rather than in the flip out table.
3. I'd love to have a second sunroof over the 2nd row seats. It doesn't have to open.
4. (oops!) I would like to see a diesel version.

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?
I may put a tow hitch on for the purpose of mounting a bike rack. I've read a couple of threads on power sliding doors. The jist of those was that it couldn't be done. I have some relatives in Europe. Maybe I could make it happen.

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
Yes. A couple.

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?
Only had it a couple of days. I'll get back to you.

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?
I think of it as a true minivan. It's those other, bigger competitors that are misnamed. I can't see a vehicle with 3rd row seats qualifying as a microvan.

1. Which model / color / transmission / options / etc. did you get?
Sport/Silver/AT/Tint, skirts, spoiler

2. Whereabouts are you located?
Orange County, CA

3. Is this your first Mazda?
No, learned to drive on a 1984 diesel 626. Owned an '04 Mazda3

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?
Mazda3, Mazda6, Passat, Matrix, GTI, no other vans interest me

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?
Size, Gas Mileage, Looks

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
Make the front seats go back another 2 inches, drop the CX-7 drivetrain in it, power sliding doors

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?
Modify the seats to go back farther, leather interior, HIDs, rear scuff guard, lighting

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
Occasionally but in Orange County everyone thinks they need to be able to carry 10 sheets of 4x8 plywood, 4 kids, 3 dogs, and watch DVDs at the same time

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?
You bought a van?

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?

Wife calls it a Carinivan (as in Car+Mini+Van). I call it a microvan

11. What question did I forget to ask?

How many people typically ride in your Mazda5? Two and a half for me

1. Which model / color / transmission / options / etc. did you get?

2010 Mazda5 Sport, Copper Red Mica, MT, base plus fog lights, homelink autodimming compass mirror, and roof rack.

2. Whereabouts are you located?

MinneSNOWta!

3. Is this your first Mazda?

Yes, though my parents bought the auto formerly known as Miata (MX-5) a couple years back and let us drive it when we visit :)

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?

We both require a manual transmission, I wanted compact and my wife wanted a van so the Mazda 5 was it. If the 5 weren't on the market we'd have gotten a Fit or a 3 most likely. After ten (literally trouble-free) years of Korean cars and five years of (not-so-trouble-free) British motorcycles, I was ready to change things up and go Japanese.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?

To recap above, it's the only (a) compact (b) MANUAL (c) minivan on the US market. Those were THE three reasons for us.

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?

(1) for the love of god, let me give you money for leather seats with a manual transmission!
(2) how about a moonroof with a manual transmission, Mazda?
(3) better snow traction from the factory
(4) better gas mileage!

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?

I have bikes to play with so probably not. Still, I'm a shadetree mechanic - I changed out the shift lever on my last car just for something to do - so I suppose I will eventually start meddling. If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is!

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?

Heh, this was clearly written in 2005. I parked next to another (silver) 5 sport at the co-op yesterday, and I parked next to another (black) 5 touring at work today. They're pretty popular!

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?

They all say, "You got a VAN? But you're not a van person!" And I try to explain the whole "space wagon" idea, the handling, the transmission, the tires, etc. but they all ALWAYS reply, "it's a MINIVAN!"

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?

Heh. It's a station wagon with sliding doors. It's a 3 with an eating disorder. It's the bastard love-child of a Honda Fit and a Chrysler Grand Caravan. But it's NOT A MINIVAN :)

11. What question did I forget to ask?

You forgot to ask if I like it! I do!

1. Which model / color / transmission / options / etc. did you get?

2009 Sport MT/ silver / no options

2. Whereabouts are you located?

near Boston

3. Is this your first Mazda?

Second - we own a 2004 MPV

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?

We considered a slightly used Volvo (2007 XC70 or V70), even looked at a 2007 XC90 (we have been a Volvo family for the last 20 years). Another serious contender was a new (2010) Subaru Outback (either with a manual transmission or a CVT). Honda CRV also made a cut, but unavailability of a manual transmission killed it.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?

Performance (i.e. - handling + manual transmission), 6-people capacity, price.

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?

I'd get a Touring MT in a heart beat. Cherry red with a dark interior would also be nice. I would not mind having more numerous (and larger) storage bins accessible by the front seat occupants. Of course, I would not mind a few extra inches of trunk space with all seats up either, but then it would be a very different car and all of us on this forum might not even like the way it drives, right?

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?

Roof rack.

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?

Plenty. Especially north of the border.

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?

It varied. "Wow!" - from the older sons (a 12 y.o. and a 16 y.o.). (I was actually surprised to have this reaction to the vehicle that is considered to be a minivan.) "Yaks!" - from a colleague who can not face the reality, but will have to soon as he recently started talking about having a second child.

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?

No idea, but I liked it and believe it is a very COOL car.

11. What question did I forget to ask?

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?
Oh yeah, starting off slow now that my wife doesn't drive it anymore

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
All stock ones, haven't seem any custom ones

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?
They are shock to see I can get 6 people in there

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?
It's multi activity vehicle

11. What question did I forget to ask?
