Mazda5 New Head Unit / Speaker Installation ('09 Sport)

no, I have a power plug in the lighter socket to the ipod to charge the ipod, then a 3.5 cable from the ipod to the aux plug right beside the lighter socket. that's all the connections i have, works good, I had to max out the volume on the ipod to get reasonable volume response on the radio controls though

Woah, so that jack isn't just the "normal" 3.5mm stereo jack, then - must also have a digital communication line that the nano taps into. Slick.

i'm replacing my HU tomorrow (yes, I know it's been 5 months since I said that - but I actually ordered all the stuff...).
So it sounds like that input cannot be used w/ an aftermarket radio. that bites, the pioneer I ordered has inputs on the back that would be great to adapt it to.

Run the input wire to where the plug is located, or run it to the glovebox.

Can anyone else confirm that the stock headunit will control an ipod nano(or other model) with only a 3.5mm audio cable plugged into the aux input port?

I have a question.
I might have missed it but did you install anything for steering wheel controls?
and what does the display in the dash read now that no stock radio is installed? where it says the radio station or cd ch1 or what now. does it just go blank? can this still be hooked up in some way? I like the location as it is high and very visible while driving.

this is funny.. he said he has to max the volume of the nano then control the volume from the radio... he's plug is just a plug to connect to the aux there is no digital communication or anything, if he minimize the volume of the nano very low and max the of the stock radio to the max all you can here is low music and the bbbbzzzzzzzzzzz sound..
