Mazda3 Warning Light

Mazda3 s Hatchback
Hello.

I just got a Mazda3 s hatchback and have a question about a light on the dashboard, which rarely stops blinking.

The light is located on the dashboard by the odometer. It is shaped like a key with a circle around it. It blinks every 2 seconds. The only time it does not blink is when the car is on (i.e. the engine is running).

Is this normal? (dunno) I haven't had a new car in 10 years.

Any feedback is welcomed.

It could be a security system built into the car, heance why it only does it when the car is running. Seen other cars with it, but normally just a light. Could signal that the ignition is being locked by the security program, meaning they can't just punch the ignition to start it.

Its just like a alarm led light that flashes. Showing theives that you have an anti theft system on your car

Pretty much.

If you look in the owners manual it should tell you what each light means on the Mazda3.

That was what was confusing.

The owner's manual states that it should "start" blinking at "2 second intervals" when the key car in the ACC position and that it should stop blinking once the engine is on.

The owner's manual makes it sound like it wouldn't have been blinking in the first place ... see what I mean?

I called the service department and they told me that it was normal, but only after stating that they still have a lot to learn about the car since it is new.

Since the manual says little to nothing about whether or not it should be blinking all of the time, and the service department gives me a guess-timate, it would really make me feel better to know that someone else's Mazda3 is doing the same thing.

It makes sense that it's a security feature, but it unlike an alarm it blinks all of the time, not just when the doors are locked.

LOL still have alot to learn since the car is new...ahh please tell me they have classes on anything new.......(screwy)
