Mazda3 steering wheel emblem

Hi...I'm a Mazda Newbie. Always drove Hondas, and I'm thrilled to finally take the plunge driving a Mazda. So much fun to drive!

I recently purchased 2010 Mazda3 GT. I notice that the plastic "chrome" steering wheel center emblem is all cracked. I'd purchase a new one online (mailed from China), but my general auto mechanic cautioned me that the old one is glued on well--and that I might damage the air bag if I pry it off.

Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
