Mazda3 Smart Cargo system in a Mazdaspeed3?

lol.... sad thing is, thats exactly what it means.... I thought rotus was being a smartass until I looked it up

The Hatch 3 standard has two extra cargo compartments. It's more than "just means the seats fold down".

The reason why the MazdaSpeed3 doesn't have this compartment is the spare is too big.

Still don't know what i mean? Or still have problems with the 'link'? Then just goto Mazdausa.com, click on the hatch 3, and then find features section for "space". Some pics are there showing what i mean.

I'd like to modify it to make it work in the Speed3.

It's just a molded plastic tray, maybe 3 inches deep, that sits over the spare and is divided into 3 sections. It also stores the lug wrench and tow-hook. The cover is split into 2 sections, and the sides of the cargo area have fold-down rings. the smaller cover piece can sit on the rings as a shelf, and the larger section can stand up and lock into the rings...

Honestly, it's not a big deal. It barely contains my highway-length jumper cables--they have to be tightly coiled and arranged just so. There's not enough useful space to do anything with it. Just another gee-whiz-whatever feature....for when I do my monthly grocery shopping.

Never confirmed if he was full of BS or not but the dealer told me the M3 storage system won't fit in the MS3 because of the larger donut 18" spare. I've had both cars and the storage system seemed relatively useless. The MS3 cover seems to weigh less also.

this is true... I tried switching them out when a friend had a reg 3 as a rental. It really doesnt do much and I found it was actually easier to put my stuff around the spare... cargo straps, 4way lug wrench, car duster, jumper cables...

not the best pic, its from my phone, but you get the idea

We get a lame cargo net which doesn't really hold anything in place. I put tools under it and they just slide around all over.

My mom's Outback has a better cargo net. It suspends in the air and folds in half making a pocket so you can put stuff in like grocery bags and they don't go flying all over the place.

Whenever I get home from the shops I find my s*** all over the back. FAIL :(

I suggest getting a milk-crate or 2 instead...

the tray really isn't all that useful, and it's a hassle to deal with come autox time...

+1.... when I have something I dont want to slide around I put it in a small box and use a bungie cord or cargo strap to hold it in place. Don't have a pic of it, but I imagine you can figure it out ;)
