ive got the spec stage2 + clutch and the fidanza fw and i hate it! i payed $800 for the 2 items and that thing chatters HORRIBLY while engaging it. I thought the mazdaspeed one was on back order or they quit making it or sumthin?? and do you have a link to this act clutch, maybe ill pull this spec one out and get one of those.

Welcome to the crap called, "Spec."
I don't own a 3. I own a protege 5 and I have the same stage 2 clutch, and my car chatters like no other! Much worse than the factory clutch, and that was really bad!

Please, FLAMEBOY, get ANYTHING but the SPEC.You WILL be sorry if you buy a SPEC.

this is a shock to me. I have heard nothing but good about spec. This concerns me because i always planned on going spec stage 3 and fidazna flywheel when I go boost. I dont think either mazdaspeed or act have the rating for boost

i do not sell spec for very specific reasons. i have heard quite a bit bad about them and personally know a few people here who do not like them.

"rating for boost"? that really makes no sense, no offense. clutches are rated by the amount of increased load and torque they can handle. whether or not you have a high horsepower car due to turbo or due to natural aspiration does not affect how a clutch functions. that be like saying your brake pads are rated to work with your taillights. again, i mean no offense, just that if someone is feeding you this kind of information you should ask them thier rationale for doing so.

the mazdaspeed clutch is rated to handle almost 300 lb feet of torque. right now thats right about where the hiboost turbo kit rates at 8psi, and certainly more than enough for an N/A setup on the mazda3.

I should have been more specific. I have seen the 300 rating for the torque on that clutch before and know that would work for now. I really hope to have my car higher than that so I want a clutch that can handle more just to be safe

handling more power doesnt mean anything. you want something that matches near your power not overkill. you will break other things before you roast your clutch at 300 lbs of torque. say you put a 400 lbs puck clutch plate and disc in, your clutch holds the power but then the next weak link in your drivetrain goes. you want a clutch that matches your application and use. this is one part you do not go overboard on.

exedy exedy exedy

i called exedy and they said they tried making a clutch for our cars but were not successful. They also saod that the amount of $$$ needed for test and devolepment was too high and would have to be matched by a huge demand for this clutch. They have a headquarters by my house (its draken or sumthin like that) and i stopped in there and got the same thing.

captain krm- Your a wise man for not selling their BS. Im VERY dissatisified with my spec clutch and if i didnt have to pull the whole trans out to get to it i would def. be replacing it ASAP. The fidanza FW on the other hand is very nice, you can feel the car rev alot faster and smoother.

when did you last talk to them?

i just heard that although the fidanza flywheel is very nice it is extremely light (9lbs) andit mrevs up way to quickly, especially for driving in traffic. I read this from Brian (i think he was the first with the hiboost turbo setup) who is selling his fidanza flywheel. i couldnt find the thread.

MAYBE the middle of november. They said it was a self adjusting clutch and their attempts keept flying apart. i have no idea what he was talkin about but thats what the man said

I think this is the thread you are looking for, ZOOMVT

Also, I just want people to know my experience, thats all. I know of a lot of people who swear by SPEC. I'm happy these people aren't having issues. I guess I souldn't be so harsh, (with SPEC) but when you spend about $700.00 for a new clutch, plus labor, and end up with a car that is now worse off than the before, it tends to leave a bad taste in your mouth.
