Does anyone else follow sales numbers? I have been really worried about the slow start that the Mazda2 has had... until this month! All i can say is that incentives + word of mouth + increased gas prices are starting to move these things!

Sep 2010: 589
Oct 2010: 629
Nov 2010: 462
Dec 2010: 834

Glad to see that more people are realizing what an excellent car this is!

It sure wasn't from their advertising budget...I rarely saw any TV or auto mag. advertising

I went a long time without seeing any 2's in my area (Phoenix, AZ), but I just spotted two 2's in the last couple months: one red and one black. I passed the red one on the freeway so I got a good look and it was a pretty sharp looking color (although I was surprised by how small the car really is). I saw the other black one this morning actually, it was stopped at the same intersection across from me, so I just got to see it drive by.

I'm proud I'm one of the 2500 in March. I've seen a few out on the road since I got mine. I figure with another few months of climbing gas prices, we'll see more 2's.

Welcome to the family, Slow Paul. I, too, have seen a few out on the road in my area. There's another black one in my business complex, a green one in my neighborhood and a pulled up next to a red one yesterday. I still have yet to see a sweet blue one on the road here in MD.

Also, I was at the dealer yesterday... I walked around and took note of every 2 on the lot... 2 white, 4 black, 1 green, 1 sliver... ALL Automatic Transmissions.... Seems like a lot of people are turned off by that 4-speed automatic. The sales guy there said they've moved every 5-speed they've gotten.

I noticed the same thing when viewing the inventory on the dealer's websites. I just figured there were so many automatics because people didn't want the sticks and the dealers only ordered automatics. Now I see that it is probably the exact opposite! haha

That's great that the 2's are finally starting to come around! I still haven't seen any around my area yet, my bf says that there is a spirited green one around the airport over here but I haven't saw it yet, he must not take it out that often. But its great that the numbers are rising, they are a truely amazing car!

You know, I always have kinda found this funny. I have had several new cars over the past 10 years, and every time i buy one, I buy a manual transmission model. But when I go looking, I usually only see car lots loaded with automatics. The dealerships reasoning usually is "nobody ever buys manual transmission anymore, so we dont keep many on the lot". I think its total BS, ESPECIALLY on a car like the Mazda 2. Mazdas usually appeal to people who want a sporty feel and not just plain transportation; I would think that means a larger percentage of people would want manual transmission than say, a corolla. Also, the Mazda 2 is Mazda's least expensive car. It appeals to people who want the MOST for their money: to get the MOST out of this car, it needs a manual! So it should be expected that they would sell more manuals than they traditionally would in other cars, not even taking the older 4-spd auto in to account...

You would think that, Richard, but buyers say otherwise. I would blame it on the newer generation of drivers in the USA having pretty much 0 manual driving experience. Combine that with the target audience of the 2 (young people buying their first car, college kid getting a car from parents, etc.). We are simply enthusiasts in the minority. I really don't care what others chose as long as Mazda continues to offer a stick. My dealer can always find me a manual from another dealer in the color/trim level I want as they have done in the past.

Yeah our 2 is one of those in that big March number. I think when taking the driving course to get your lisence they should make you drive a stick. It makes you a way better driver (for most people). Some people just can't drive.
