Mazda2 gas mileage and defrost problem

im normally at 310miles at 9 gallons when i fuel up every week. and 310 is just the E flashing, bars gone. once i went past the e flashing and the bars started coming back. i thought god was refueling my car. but i decided to refuel and was at 10 gallons. so idk why it was resetting bars.

also i watched my bars. and usually if i drive normal its

bar 1 goes at 25miles
then i counted about another 46 miles till bar 2 went
then i counted about 40 bars till bar 3 went.
then it varied above 30 miles after that

ALSO. i forget if it was motor trend or what car mag but they tested all the eco hatches and rated the 2 as the worst. only 27mpg with m/t. which i find bs. cuz my a/t is getting 33 with abuse (:P) and i know others getting close to 40 on a/t and m/t.

they did say the 2 was the most fun

but worst gas/room/power

but when you think about it.
the 2 is like a misunderstood kid

its not mazdas eco car. the sky models will all be that
its not ther fast model speeds do that
its not ther roomy model the cx-5 and 3hatch does that
its really mazdas autox/fun model. if u watch the documentary they said they reengineered all the parts on the demio so that if they could make everything just 1 gram lighter. in the end itll add up. and a lightweight car is more fun to drive. so i think the 2 is just a fun car.

which is why i bought it.

aight im done. gonna go watch fast n furious and learn how to drift.

yeah mine is about the same, sometimes i swear my first bar doesnt go down til like 30ish miles(i dont know if it fluctuates with how your driving) i also average about 300-310 on a full tank (sometimes i fuel it up around 250-260 so i dont have to think about it but i know it can get 300 without a prob)

Update on fuel economy. 31 mpg. Mostly city and fast highway and autocross and shifting at 3-5k sometimes at redline. Lots of fun this little bugger. 19,000 miles.

Since my car has broken in (at 16k on the odometer now), I've noticed that while my daily-driving (50 miles roundtrip at 55mph) fuel economy has stayed pretty constant at about 40mpg, my higher-speed roadtrips (65+mph) have gotten better economy. I'd get 34-35mpg at that speed, but on a recent roadtrip to Nebraska I was up in the 37-38mpg range. So for all of you with "poor" mileage, all I can suggest is to let off the gas a bit and just wait until things break in...it will get better.

I just clocked 32,000 miles on my 2011 Sport 5spd. My mileage kept getting a little better until I hit about 25K on the clocks, must have completely broken in at that point. I commute at 70-75 mph daily, with very little city driving, and am averaging just over 38mpg. I can hit over 40 if I drive nice, but what fun is that!?!?!?
