Mazda Warranty

Does anyone have a good read on how Mazda reacts to non factory mods? The only things I did to my SRT-4 were a Mopar/Borla 2.5 exhaust, K&N CAI, and upgraded spark plugs and wires, never a problem for Dodge when I had service work done (a cam sensor went out, an intercooler hose blew off). Mopar also made upgraded ecu's and turbo kits (stage 1, 2, and 3), my service manager always told me that they would do warranty work if my mods didn't cause the problem. I get the impression that this varied from dealer to dealer. Is Mazda the same way? I would like to do the do it yourself motor mount mod, and the shifter bushings, but i'm worried that it may put the warranty in danger. How do they react to aftermarket motor or tranny mounts, exhaust and intakes?

well if your motor mount breaks your screwed, and if you throw a CEL with an intake on they may charge you to fix it.

my dealer told me the same, as long as the mod doesnt cause the problem it wont void the warranty.

They will fight you over warranty issues if you have anything aftermarket on your car. I have first hand experience with this. If you mod it, make sure you can put it back to stock easily. Keep all of your service paperwork in order as well. I hate the company, but I love the car!

mazda should do upgrades like the srt4 had...

The upgrades from Dodge were cool, but they were an invitation to void the warranty. I will probably only go the Mazdaspeed route for mods with the MS3 if I do anything to it. It sucks that we notice things like weak motor or transmission mounts, and it is a better option to let them fail, rather than replace them with something better.

Cosimic, make yourself some inserts for your motor mount. That way you can remove them if needed.

Hi WetsuitxNinja,

Have you done this?
If so how did you do this and how affective was it?

Any help would be great!!

TIA,

So I have an appointment Monday morning to get my first oil change at the dealer. I'm at almost 1700 miles, I meant to do it by 1500, but the miles piled up too quick! I know we can wait until 3k, I just don't like the idea of letting all the crap that a new engine generates float around in there. I had heard that 1500 miles is enough time for regular oil to bond to the seals or whatever it does (MS3 is shipped with regular oil, synthetic will not penetrate the seals), any advice on this? I hope to notice a change in performance like I did when I changed from regular to synthetic in my SRT 4 for its first oil change. I am also having the gas cap replaced. The CEL came on after about 200 miles, still on the original tank of gas from the dealer. I checked the cap, it was loose, I tightened it and took it in to the dealer. They said it was fine but the gas cap needed to be replaced. The CEL cleared by about 700 miles, not sure why, but I'm still getting the new gas cap. I'm also having them look at the tranny mount.

My service advisor is O.K. I asked him if a replacement motor mount would put the warranty in danger. In typical dealer fashion, he said it shouldn't, but it could. I then explained to him that the stock mount is weak and the engine jumps around like an animal in a cage. He said that a motor mount isn't really a big deal like some of the other mods that could damage the car if done wrong. I'll let everyone know how it goes!:)
