To the poster that is worried with MN temperatures - Tesla sells a lot of their cars in Norway for few years now. Norway has voted to go ICEless in a few years.

Thanks for the info. The battery might have slightly degraded performance in the cold, but I'm more concerned about keeping the driver/passengers warm. Would the electric heater affect the range much?

The Tesla has a phone app that can be used to have it all warmed up and windshield cleared by the time you need it. All while plugged in and charging. The batteries produce some heat when being discharged so this will help heat the passengers. Around here electric vehicles are very PC The local university provide preferred parking with free charging. If I worked there I would definitely own a electric. I have noticed that many business and motels provide free charging.

There is actually more to heating which is perceived by passengers than just blowing the hot air. For instance, heated steering wheel & heated seat provide more comfort than just blowing tons of hot air.

More efficient heating methods are used as well.

I am in IL and would opt for any kind of 'sub-zero package' when getting an EV car.

After doing a lot of back n forth and seeing the EVs in the market I highly recommend a used B Class in the ball park of 20K USD for 2014 MY. It has a lot of premium features - good utility, higher height and 7.7 to 60
If i had free charging or paid at the office - I can buy this. Leaf's are a bit risky - Nissan has refused to acknowledge battery issues and their resale is crap. I dont have a covered parking and no way to charge - otherwise $25/month to run an electric for 9K miles a year - hard to beat that.

I don't see myself buying an EV until it can be recharged in under 5 minutes. Maybe a hybrid or version with a range extender.... although extenders use up cargo space.

The new Leaf is supposed to come out soon and hopefully deal with all issues from current model.
In terms of the Merc B, I believe that Tesla did/has done powertrain and battery if it. I consider it a good thing.
