Mazda Speed Exhaust Question

Does anybody out there have a mazdaspeed exhaust on their P5? and what kinda performance do you get over the stock exhaust?

Im with Jim...

I got it...Love how it looks on the back...Like the hummmm....But I don't think that it has added much if not anything. I just find myself giving it gas a little bit more, just to hear it grumble.

But I wasn't looking to redo the whole exhaust system or anything...Just didn't think that little exhaust tip they had looked right from the back, needed something a little big bigger, but not as obnoxiously loud as the honda down the street.

I have it, it sounds great, the perfomance is good, and I just love it. It is sweet and low, bassy, which I love. I hate those cars that sound like 2 bees f'n in a tin can. Highly recommend you get the Mazdaspeed exhaust.

no it's not the same...what all the p5 owners here are talking about is the mazdaspeed unit which is an option. the msp has a racingbeat system

as for the mazdaspeed exhaust...its a good looking system but i can't really say much for the power increase. you might see some more performance if you get some custom piping done to it...but the thing i like most about it is that when installed it is very clean. the exhaust fits perfectly under the bumper unlike other cars (civics for one) that just have it hanging down, there is a cutout in the bumper for the exhaust...

the sound isn't too loud or too soft but just right for me...though it does get a little loud past 85...or so i've heard ;-)

I have mine on since last week and I LOVE IT. Not to loud, but you can hear it coming! And its not annoying at highway speeds. Nothing your stereo cant tune out.

Hi All,

I just got the Mazdaspeed bolt on rear section and I like it too. I read somewhere that it's made by Bosal. It sounds good, just a little to loud around 3500 rpm. i think it's done a little to boost performance, but not sure. Might just 'sound' louder like everyone says... ;)

It does fit perfectly and the instalation was easy. The hardest part was getting the old muff off the rubber hangers. i eventually used a crowbar. I also have a hidden hitch on mine and the guys that custom made it ( Master Hitch here in Houston) made sure that I could get an aftermarket exhaust on there.

I've also put an AEM short ram system on there (got a good deal that I couldn't pass up). I paid $165 from Carboy here. That undercut all the online places I could find and he had it in stock. The install took about 45 minutes and was pretty easy. they just didn't include an extra size 45 hose clamp, but I reused one of the stock ones.

I've also changed the spark plugs to Bosch platinum 4 at the same time. When I did that I noticed that I was getting some arcing from the plug wires to the ignitor leads. I bent the lead wires further away from the wires, but hope to put some Magnacore wires on there soon. I was getting up to 28 mpg around town with moderate hiway driving and I've now picked up another 1 mpg with the intake and spark plug modifications. The car also seem to have more pickup than with just the Exhaust rear section. I'll be taking a trip this weekend and hope to break 30 mpg.

In the future, I plan on trying to fab a cold air box for the AEM or making a whole new intake. I'm also going to order the Kartboy short shifter with the bushing and the knob. If anyone is wondering, they just put an option on there for the three piece package for $135.

Sorry to ramble on, but it's my first post!

Sorry to be the one to ask the newbie questions, but I've got a 2003 stock yellow pr5, and want to add the exhaust.

I saw somewhere on here, that the mazdaspeed exhaust is about $150...obviously more economical than a full cat back.

I can't seem to find it online? Can anyone link me? Or is this a piece that has to be purchased through the mazda dealership?

Also, how does this affect the warranty?

Thanks

Thanks for the links

Did anyone have their dealership install it for them? What was the cost?

Was there any cutting/welding involved in the installation?

Just a little info. I just purchased a MS axle back from my P-5. I looked at mazdastuff.com and found it for 198.00. I printed that out and took it to my dealers Parst dept. They matched the price and took 10 dollars off of the 198. Then they gave me over night shipping for the price of ground shipping. The list price was around 240.00. So you do the math. I would suggest checking with youre local dealer.
Here is the info on the muffler.
MazdaSpeed USA sport muffler (manufactured by Bosal):
for Protege: part # 0000-8M-C09
for Protege 5: part # 0000-8M-C10

Sweet deal! Thanks for the info

Did you have them install it for you? My only reasoning is the fact that I wouldn't want to void the warranty over a little toy like this

No I did the dirty work myself. I took me 20 mins max. I had to get longer muffler hangers from the auto parts cause the tip fit flush with the cutout in the bummper like this

Then when I would hit a bump, the muffler would bounce around. Now I have the new hangers and everything is fine. I have not had the time to get a new picture yet. Its cold and wet here so have not felt like playing outside. I hope this helps.

Where can I get the Mazdaspeed Exhaust?

Where do you guys get the mazdaspeed exhaust?

Do you guys buy it from the dealer?

And do you know where can I get the RacingBeat exhaust on the MP3?

Just quoting myself for Renesis. You can get the RB from Mitch on Protege5online. He might be a little slow getting your order.

I am not sure how much they want, but it can be to much. It took my about 1 hour total, set up to clean up. Do it yourself save money.
