Mazda screwing our resale value?

Hope you enjoy the car. What color is it? Maybe I'll see you out there.

Lazer blue w/no exterior mods. The color alone is conspicuous enough for me.

Guess you would be out in that area - I assume you work at Charleston AFB?

Like my 5 a lot but I'll never buy a new mazda again. Im about to do my second oil change at 3500 miles and I have already lost 5 grand. I knew I would have to deal with new car depreciation but this is absurd. Oh and I also bought it on the mazda "s plan".

Forgive my ignorance, but what is an "S plan?"

The "s plan" is a purchase plan offered to affiliates of Mazda and allows you to buy right below invoice. I was elligible through Mazdaspeeds team support program because of racing my miata.

My car is an 3.5 with abs, roof rack, sub, wheel locks, bumper protector(basically stripped with ABS) and it was 17133 which was about 150 below invoice.

I got the 0 percent financing and only put $600 down so Im wayyyyy upside down right now with the rapidly declining value.

Im going to bail for a jetta 1.8t wagon sport package as soon as its practical.

Wow, reminds of my former 0% lender-my father. Very nice deal w/the APR even w/the declining value.

Thanks for the explanation and good luck getting that VW.

laserblue, Anytime you choose apr of rebate, of course it will take a few years to recoupe the money you gave up. If you would of taken the rebate, as of right now I think it's 2500, you would not be so hammered in the car. After a while the zero percent will lower the payoff to equal out. Surely 2500 dollars upsidedown is not to bad on a new car purchase. If you do, go look at the competition and see how you fare.

Yep. Drove on ashley phosphate today. You work in town?

I would like to get a new one, just to have a 2.0, but saving money for adoption and house, so I'll stick with mine for a while. Mine is fairly unique though. Not many silver ES protege's out there, that I've seen.

Yeah, I work downtown on Calhoun. Lived downtown before I was married a few months ago, but North Charleston is about the only place we could afford to buy a decent house-hence the commute and AT.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for the siver ES crawling down Ashley Phosphate. Cars are great, but sounds like you have more important priorities. Best wishes on the adoption!

Trading the car back to the dealer.. they aren't goin to give you very much for the P5....
I went to a dealer 2 weeks ago for a trade in.. they said my 03 P5 Auto, Moon, AC with only 6600 km's.. was only worth $14,500 CDN... I'm selling my P5 to my mom's friend.. privately for $18,500 CDN with an Exhaust, reactive intake, auto exe lower arm bar, auto exe front lip an grill, ground wires....

unless there is a new "book" you just told us that you use NADA :D

nada books are black (bi-weekly) and orange (monthly)

Matthew, do you work for a dealership OR is what the dealers in your area use as a guide.

ive been in the army for the last three years. however, i have two years experience as a car salesman before i joined. i first worked for a used car dealership that catered to mainly younger crowds (so we sold a lot of turbo'd eclipses, talons, TONS of 5.0 stangs, camaros, etc), and then i worked as a new car salesman for a chevy dealership.

the new car dealership kinda sucked, it was very impersonal, the used car one was the s***. there were 3 salesman, a sales manager, a finanace manager and one mechanic. it sounds ghetto and pathetic, but i actually made between 3k and 4k a month working there because we got such awesome cars. it gave me the great opportunity of doing many things (because we had very limited help)

1) i got to wash or wax my car everyday for free
2) i got to detail each car i sold (sounds bad, but i enjoyed it)
3) i was certified to purchase cars at auctions in pennsylvania, and therefore also drove the cars back from the auction (although sometimes if we bought a lot one day we paid a flat bed truck to bring them back)
4) i learned a lot of about credit reports, credit, and background s*** from the finance manager, because i helped pull peoples credit every time the bought a car.
5) i learned a lot about the whole car selling process, because in such a small place we were privy to all the information, like cost, etc. its helped me a lot

oh, and how could i forget the best part? the dealership was owned by three guys (who worked there also) that had connections to the mafia and connections with other dealers with connections! (i know sounds like a movie, right?) so i got to drive and see some of the best cars i have seen in my life during my span of working there. my boss owned more cars than anyone i have met, and he made $$$ and still struggled but loved cars so much he didnt care. after meeting him, thats why i have such a hard time believing punks like flat black...he owned 67 camaro SS (see below), 64 1/2 mustang (see below), 87 countach (see below), 94 acura legend (show not go), 95 dodge ram p/u (off road modified, like huge tires, etc), some custom old ford/chevy rebuilt truck from the 30s, and his wifes 94 mustang cobra.

some of the cars i got to drive:

- HEAVILY modified 5.0 stangs
- boss's 67 camaro ss black/black front wheels would lift off ground, restored, 40k orig miles
- boss's 64 1/2 mustang (not as modified as the SS but still fast as hell)
- boss's wife's HEAVILY modified 94 stang cobra (she looked like pam anderson, and did the mods herself (evil))
- two 67 mustang fastbacks
- 94 supra black/black TT with TT
- boss's 87 countach 2800 orig miles (wow) (only got to ride, not drive)

and the best of all - they had a connection with some dealer in philly. they were trying to sell this mob guys car, but werent having luck. i got to go to philly and drive the car all the way back to pittsburgh by myself. some of the best days of my life were spent driving:

1997 Pearl White Lotus Esprit TT V8 - 0-60 approx 3.8-4.2s (omg)

ahh....some of those cars you may be like who cares, but in pittsburgh, if someone owns something like a supra, its hella impressive, because you cant drive that s*** for like 3 months outta the year. where i live now, someone may own a corvette and youre like "so", but in pittsburgh, if someone owns a corvette or something, thats big money, because you know they also have some expensive ass SUV as well. plus if youre a true car enthusiast you learn to look past import or domestic and appreciate beauty and power (such as the camaro, older mustangs, and newer modified stangs)

well thanks for letting me rant and remember the good ole days. now i drive a damn 550 twin turbo diesel truck :(

too bad it weighs 28k pounds and tows a trailer that weighs another 18k pounds. and those numbers are without the 44k pound loads we can carry.

Sounds like it was a pretty cool deal at the used car dealership. I've been is the biz now for like a year and a half and want to get out so bad, just not enough money

That "s plan" doesn't sound like too much of a deal. The invoice on mine was $17667 I think (ABS/Airbags/roof rack/sunroof/cd changer/leather). I paid 17167 (because of the Student Discount) before tax/title/etc.

I also opted in for the 100K/6yr warrantee because I don't want to pay for any repair while I'm paying for the car...and I don't plan to sell the car until it has been paid off for at least a year.

My tip for buyers out there is to shop around, take your time, and choose a car that you will be happy with today as well as 5 years down the road. I don't understand people who buy a car and decide they don't like it after 3 months. If you test drive it and know right off the bat that the car doesn't have enough hp, or the seat is somewhat uncomfortable, it will not change after you pay $17000 for it. Trading in and buying a new car now will just put you further in the hole.

damn i was making around 45k per year at the used place which was a fortune to an 18 year old. i didnt work there for a whole year though, so technically i didnt make the 45k, but was on track to. i think i made like 34k or so in 9 months.
