Mazda REV IT UP events

Me and 3 buddies are signed up for the NYC one on 8/2, group 13. Figured I'd sign up early and get first dibs on the group times.

Got back from the SF event late last night.

I was first overall for over 2 hours, before getting edged by 0.04 seconds by a good friend from the car club I am a member of here in Norcal... We were within 0.3 sec of the official index times established by the professional drivers instructing at the event...

Good course, good time. It's worth doing: the course is decent, and the Mazda 6 had better handling than I expected. The Falken Azenis tires don't hurt, either ;)

Further news:

The friend of mine who edged me out yesterday went by this afternoon, and as of then, no one had beaten either of us, so we were still 1-2 in the standings. It's pretty gratifying to do that well when I know that a large number of REALLY good drivers have been taking their turn...

When posted, I'll list the final results...

i plan on going to philly also, what day you going. im probally going sun.

Hey folks, I went to the SF event as well and here are my thoughts.

I have never autocrossed before and it was a blast. The instruction was decent, perfect for a newbie like me. It was fun to bang on all the Mazda vehicles. I got to drive several 6's a Miata MX-5 LS (I think, it was the one with the 6 speed), and the 2003.5 Mazdaspeed through a slalom course with Falken tires. Entertaining and well worth the $40.

The only problem is they got WAY behind on their run times. My first run on the track was scheduled for 3:20, I didn't get on the ccourse until 5:10, very frustrating. So if you sign-up sign up for as early a slot as you can. As a result of the delay I left before my second run on the competition course. I had been there since 11:45 and didn't want to wait around any longer.

All in all the event gets two thumbs up from me, aside from the delay in run times it was a good experience and driving the 2003.5 Mazdaspeed was really a pleasent surprise. I am wishing now more then ever that I hadn't gotten the auto with my protege5, never thought driving could be this much fun after spending most of the last several years driving a nissan pickup. That is one mistake I will not repeat.

jhotrod: There is an SCCA autox at Golden Gate fields in Albany next Sunday (Apr 6th) BE THERE! Get a ride with us on a REAL course (not that the RIU course wasn't good, though) since it will be hard for you to get a license by then. If you act TOMORROW, you can get your license and get a faxed temp card to get you in as a driver until your real card arrives!

If you were there for the 3.20 event, did you get a chance to see my big biff? I threw away my second run hitting 7 cones... Then Noel took his chance to edge me out...

Unofficial results are out: Noel Esporo of Praxis Racing here in Norcal was the winner. I was second overall to Noel. The two of us were the ONLY drivers ALL WEEKEND in the 33s!!! Now I'm sitting on the edge of my seat to see if my time will be good enough to get me a wild card entry to the finals in August.

i'm hoping to sign up this weekend, but i'm waiting to see if a friend decides to come...

Yup. Mine was the one that still had dealer tags on it... I hope you had fun... I never met the other guy there. I don't know who he was.... The RX-7 behind us sounded WICKED as he pulled up, BTW...
