Just looked at mine and it's cracked too. Now when you went to the dealer...didn't they go "Are you serious, you want a new muffler cause of a few little cracks?"
^^^That's exactly what I am wondering too!

Just got my new muffler yesterday! Looks a lot more solid then the stocker, it's louder but I like it...sounds more badass.

Thanks for the tip guys!

Update on my situation...Went to dealership #2 b/c dealership #1 didn't have an appointment this week and I wanted to get it done before school starts next week. Dealer #1 will warranty it. Dealer #2 said the cracks doesn't affect the drivibility of the car so it won't be covered. I guess I have to go back to dealer #1 next week, but I don't have my sch for my classes. What a pain in the ass.

Got It, But It Took Some Fighting

YESTERDAY WENT TO THE DEALERSHP FOR THE MUFFLER, FIX A BLOWN SUB, AND A CLICKING WHEN I TURN, CAR HAS 16k ON THE CLOCK (DEALERSHP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR)

WONT FIX THE SUB BECAUSE AS LONG AS SOUND IS COMMING OUT OF IT, ITS CONSIDERED FUNCTIONAL. IF SOUND STOPS THEY WILL REPLACE IT...KINDA LAME, BUT YOU CAN BARELY TELL SO I DON'T REALLY CARE

THE CLICKING WAS FROM A BROKEN AXLE!!! THEY TOLD MEM THEY WOULD FIX IT THIS TIME, BUT NEVER AGAIN AND REALLY SCOLDED ME ABOUT MY DRIVING HABITS...I DONT DRIVE THAT CAR VERY HARD AND IT WAS IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT THAT COST 5,000 TO FIX, SO I'M GUESSING ITS FROM THE ACCIDENT, THE FUNNY THING IS THE CAR MADE THAT SOUND FOR MONTHS AND DROVER PRETTY MUCH FINE, THE ONLY TIME I HEARD A NOISE WAS U TURNING FULLY TO ON SIDE (LOCK TO LOCK) BUT THEY ARE REPLACING IT SO IM HAPPY

FINALLY THE EXHAUST, FIRST THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PART 0000-8M-C09 WASN'T FOR MY CAR, I HAD ALREADY EXPLAINED THAT I KNEW THAT AND I WANTED IT DONE. THEN THEY SAID THEY WEREN'T GOING TO FIX IT AND THAT HAS BEEN THERE POLICY WITH OTHERS WHO HAVE TOLD THEM ABOUT THE CRACK. AGAIN I TOLD THEM THAT OTHER DEALER ARE DOING IT AND I DID TALK TO SOMEONE IN TOWN WHO GOT THERE FIXED, THEY AGAIN TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVEN'T BEEN FIXING THEM AND THAT THEY WOULD LOOK INTO IT. I INSISTED THEY FIX IT, BUT I WAS POLITE. WENT HOME AND CALLED THE OTHER 3 MAZDA DEALERS TO SEE IF THEY REMEMBERED FIXING ANYONE CAR LIKE THAT. ALL GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND ABOUT HOW THE CRACKING DOESN'T AFFECT DRIVING AT ALL SO THEY DIDN'T THINK THEY WOULD FIX IT (EVEN THOUGH I KNOW FOR A FACT ONE OF THEM HAD ALREADY DONE IT!!! I JUST COULDN'T REMEMBER WHICH)...WELL DEALER CALLED THIS MORNING, THEY HAD THE PART IN STOCK EVEN AND THEY WILL INSTALL IT...THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. SO ALL IN ALL A FRUSTRATING, BUT GOOD DEALER EXPIRIENCE.

I JUST WANT TO THANK THIS FORUM FOR THE HELP BECAUSE WITHOUT THE PART NUMBER AND THE PROOF I DON'T THINK THEY WOULD HAVE FIXED IT...JUST AND FYI FOR OTHERS WHO WANT THIS DONE.

I brought mine in on Monday for the Cracked Muffler Tip and a coolent leak. It's been there for 3 days now waiting on the muffler. I hope they ordered and are putting on the right one.

im just thinking why would the dealership give us a run around on this issue abt the cracking....i mean, isnt the cracking a sign that something is not good? they say cos it dosent affect the performance of the car...well, it affects our eyes seeing it like that...and we bought the car new so cracks and inperfection should be covered as long as warranty is there..just my opinion...cos im so tired of dealership people saying things like this and that...i would love for them to be in our shoes and have us to be on theirs..seems every one always have a higher blood pressur everytime they go there..I KNOW I AM..they say no to things we want done...and on my care they are all legitimate claim..darn it.hehe

they replaced mine with what looked like the same exact muffler but "fixed" You can tell it used to have a crack by the carbon build up but it looks like they sanded past it. I dunno wtf they got ahold of another mazdaspeed oval exhaust but they did. I was pissed. :( No free mod for me. It'll crack again i'm sure but i got 14,000 miles left on my warranty so it problably won't crack before then.

that replacement unit is cheaper then the stock MS/Racingbeat exhaust, that pic you showed is just the 99+ sport exhaust, same thing i got on my protege.....not bad exhaust thou. i like the oval shaped tip on the 03.5 msp's

Becareful which muffler they order, some people want the 03 model... they have to order the 03.5.... they might've ordered you the same one you have, make sure you specify which one you want.

got the muffler, sounds awesome, looks better

I got the one pictured in these threads (i don't like oval tips, so I LOVE the look of the new one, also it sounds fantastic, while the old one was darn near quite, this one growls and gargles...I could not be happier.

How I have had this replacement mazdaspeed muffler on...man that things drones (sp). I think I might like the racing beat better. I like the sound of the Mazdaspeed one when getting on the car, but at highway speeds, it's just to much noise.

Does anyone else who has this exhaust backfire a ton when down shifting when coming to a stop? Are backfires bad at all? (stupid question prolly)

Thanks,
Ryan

Right here, I have the P5 one that an idiot put on but it's the same. It drones and it backfires way more than before.

Yeah...they originally ordered the wrong one for mine. Took like 7 days to get it right.

It's actually Mazda's fault, they were packaging the 010 mufflers in 009 boxes. But then the dealer didn't handle it right.

Still loving it.

Screw the drone. the last one (original oval tip) was mouse quiet. I love the look of the new one and the sound is bad ass. I recomend it to everyone.

The added noise I guess is ok, the highway drone is annoying while on the gas. Not sure I like being forced into a muffler that is way different than stock. I mean if I wanted a fart can car I would have bought a civic and pimped it out.
