Mazda Racing Headers Installed

mp3 owner, is this the same setup they are offering on that group buy, with the midpipe included?

So if we have one individual who paid 350 shipped and one who paid 340 why is the group buy 350?

should it not be lower for a "group buy price" than some individual purchase. I am a little confused as to how this is a deal if these people are getting for those prices.?

im thinking they might not have got the midpipe like we are signing up for int he GB

So did anyone fund out about this, Im all for it if indeed I would be getting a deal but if I can get the same price purchasing on my own that affords flexibility in timing wth.

Here are some pics of my set-up...

Just some heads-up...

The install was not as easy as I thought it would be, but I am not the most mechanicly inclined person on the board either. It took me the better part of a day to complete. But I also I had to replace just about my whole exhaust because of Bosal being smart ass's and sticking a 3 bolt flange on their system instead of the stock 2 bolt like the RacingMazda header is set up for.

The EGR pipe needed to be pushed back a little to clear the long stem placed on the header.

The chrome turns yellow-ish after you run it for a while.

I had exhasut leaks because the header was not sent with gaskets. I would highly recommend the use of gaskets.

And Yes, I do have a CEL. Expected though so no big deal there.

Overall not a bad deal considering our options. Once I get my leaks fixed I will be happier.

1) where can you get the gaskets
2) if i just have an axle back exaust, it will bolt right to the stock exhaust right because it is 2 bolt right?
3) what gaskets does it not come with? the one for the exhaust manifold or the ones at the end of each pipe?
4) how much did you have to bend the egr pipe?
5) did you go with the midpipe that eliminates the cat or with a cat?
6) how does it run with the CEL? like s***? or did you already install the fix?
Thanks for letting me pick your brain MP3!!!!!!

aftershock - did you have these same problems?

Gasket to where it bolts up to the engine? Or gasket to where it meets the exhaust pipe? Or both? :) Where do you buy such things? Thanks!

You would probably need both unless its like the AWR header and the gasket(the one that connects the header to the block) is builtin.

But either way you can get gaskets at a muffler shop or your local mazda dealer.

i also needed to buy a gasket i didnt recive one
or the bolts. sucks!
my header wasnt from this buy, i got it on my own
a while back.
yes, the crome will turn to s***....mine did after 2 weeks.
i can tell all of you this.....expect some exshust leaks from the two pices of the header that meet up.
i had to get mine fixed for exshust leaks 3 times now.
but s***, no one else sells a header for $290.00
that i know of, so i cant really complan.

Is that a picture of the header AFTER the discolouration occured? If so, it doesn't look so bad.

As for exhaust leaks where the two pieces meet up, is there a gasket there or do you have to go get the surfaces planed?

ya, that is about 8 months of driving on it. it looks worse in person
so i used header wrap on it. it came with no gasket...i had my muffler shop install about three differant kinds now, because they just kept leaking.

gaskets are sent with the header kit. Proper install will not result in any leaks. The EGR piece was made long enough to prevent leaks. The seal nut on the stock piece need to be pulled back on intallstion. Keep in mind that every ones will have a different level of difficulty on install, depending on tools and how incline they are.

YES the chrome will turn color after a while.

If you have an od exhaust with a 3 bolt flange, you will have to modify.

rick, dont get me wrong i like your header.
i did not get a gasket though.... or nuts... just studs for the nuts.
also i bought the mx-6 header not the new one that you moded.
i had the egr relocated and the part that i had problems leaking was the flange on the header itself, not to the block but to the second peace of the header or the down pipe.
i dont blame you for any of these problems....i had i took the risk of getting this header a longtime ago. knowing that it wasnt made for my car. i just wanted to help the others out with some knowage that might save them some problems in the future.
i think your header is an awsome value.:D
