Mazda Dealership Service??

So I go in to get an oil change, and I know you guys will say do it yourself, but I don't have a garage and its snowing in chicago. When I get home afterwards, I'm looking over the receipt, which I should have done right away, and I notice that the put in 5w20.

IT SAYS RIGHT IN THE MANUAL.....5W30 for Turbo motors. WTF.

So I call and the guy and his response is, "Well i'll be. thats what it calls for, huh. Well I'm just filling in for a guy, sorry. We can change it out on another day."

My mistake, I guess I didn't know I have to verbally read basic information out of the manual to the losers who work there.

Its frustrating. They also rotated my tires, guess I'll wait for a wheel to fall off.

We really should come together as a community and confront Mazda with this information! The BMW community came together to help one of there own recently and they are actually getting things done coupled with proper use of the internet. Why cant we do the same?

We drive the fastest car in Mazda's Stable and it is one of the best performers on the market today, there is no reason why we cannot get good service and proper care. I say we do what the BMW guys did to the lincoln bmw dealership.

Well not to be a s*** disturber here but my manual says 5w20. I have from the info gathered here the first production ms3 to NA. Then after asking the same question it seemed as after about 6 months or so they all started saying 5w30.

Does it really matter, probably not. But if you can get a free oil change out of it then raise a little hell.

I was told by the sales associate 5w20 when I bought mine and I have no idea what my manual says because the car is still in Transit. He didn't seem like a total moron, but I'd still like to know for sure what to put in it when the time comes.

The Mazdaspeed 3 engine takes 5w-30 oil 100%. Using 5w-20 is very dangerous during the summer months as dino oil tends to shear pretty bad down to a lower weight (30 to a 20, 20 to a 10). I would definately have 5w-30 put in if you're not sure what its there now.

THis is the kind of crap I am talking about. Why dont we come together as a community and fight this!!!! Why isn't this post getting more help? When is it going to happen to one of our cars and we are in the same position as Darksun!

Actually ford just released a letter telling us in warmer climates ALL vehicles "requiring" 5s30 could safely use 5w20.

So I call this week to make an appointment. I am told by the service technician that what is in the manual doesn't matter, that they are being told 5w-20. Then he tells me to look on the oil cap, it would specify right on there....NO IT DOESN'T.

I called mazda NA to verify this, and all they would tell me is that it is based on climate and they are certified and trained...etc. etc. I even said, it may be fine in the winter but we get 90 degree weather in the summer here in chicago. He basically told me the dealer is right and that I have no case to get the oil changed. Despite what the manual says.


Does this make sense to anybody. Guess i'll just wait till it warms up and change the oil myself.

If thats dyno oil, you better be damn sure you change it at 3k or before if its hot out. 30 weights have been known to shear down to 20 weights, as well as 20 to 10's. They should have specified 5w-30 synthetic for these cars.

Go to a lube shop, pay 60 bucks and have em put in some synthetic.

just make sure that they actually put the synthetic in!! there are some not so good shops that will charge you 60 bucks for synth and put in dino oil
