2021 CX-5 Carbon Turbo
Hi all,

Last month I bought a 2021 CX-5 Carbon Turbo with 40k miles in Puerto Rico. The dealership offered a Mopar 5yr/60k miles Pre-Owned Added Care Plus extended warranty for $3,450 (Sounds expensive) with $200 deductible. Is this worth it?

Last week the wiper motor went nuts and though it is covered, I would have to pay $200, so I'm better off doing it on a mechanic, and I think it would be quicker, since the dealership takes time to order parts and stuff. By this experience, I'm considering cancelling the warranty, as it feels like a hassle to solve simple issues. I have close to $14,000 in my savings account that would protect me in the event of repairs, though I'm saving up for buying land.

But I'm thinking that an engine/transmission failure would pay for itself for $200 for sure. I've had old cars before, but I take care of them. However, my previous 2011 Outlander Sport was good until the CVT started to fail and no mechanic wanted to work on it, so I traded it in.My previous 99 Mirage Technica had an engine replacement and it costed $1000 in total.

Should I keep the warranty?

$3,450 is high but don't know the situation in PR. I purchased a complete B2B warranty no deductible from my local Mazda dealer after my 2019 was coming up on the end of the Powertrain warranty for $1800. It extends the warranty for another 5 yrs and 60,000 miles. I'm pretty sure I could of gotten the price a little lower but I was happy with that price. It was peace of mind against the possibility of a cracked cylinder head on the turbo. A few months later Mazda extended the Powertrain warranty to cover the cracked head problem. I'm keeping the warranty.

You're the only one that can really answer the question - should I keep it?
I assume the car was not purchased at a Mazda dealership. If not I would contact
a Mazda dealership and ask if they honor that warranty for work. If you have a major
problem you would most likely want a Mazda dealer to handle it.

Best warranties are those offered by the original vehicle manufacturer and read the fine print.
