Well, Honda sells a factory supercharger for the crx now, even though the car is being discontinued. Maybe more a push for Mazda. It would be sad for them to be last in the segment.

Mazda2: U.S.-bound production of the redesigned Mazda2 begins in November. The subcompact rides on an all-new platform using the Skyactiv architecture and powertrains. Base models will get power from a 1.5-liter four-cylinder Skyactiv engine; Mazda also will offer a sportier Mazda2 with a 1.5-liter modified with a freer-breathing intake and exhaust for increased power as Mazda seeks class-leading performance among subcompacts.
The Mazda speed 2 is already out its available in Australia but not the USA yet. Just ask Antoine he will tell you.
Mazda’s global sales and marketing general manager told the publication that "One of the challenges we (Mazda) are currently considering is how to maintain the product competitiveness throughout the lifecycle. Mazda is also confident it can make this pocket rocket relevant against those rivals. It really just boils down to having enough customer interest. For now the automaker wants to see how initial sales of the new Mazda2 pan out. Rendering courtesy of X-Tomi Design.
Kengo Fukushima, who said he would like to see in the offer a model that would compete with the Ford Fiesta ST and other similar models.
Ran into this article on Jalopnik.com which talks about the new MX-5 getting a coupe version a year after it's launched. This lead me to this article from autonews.com that also talks about a possible MAZDASPEED3 and class leading performance for the Mazda 2.
Class leading performance among subcompacts? This can only happen with more power right? I hope they aren't talking about only handling.
